That's an asinine statement for ANYONE familiar with retail. Even stores in the best neighborhoods average way more than 2 a month.

If they don't get arrested, it's not technically a "shoplifting incident."

Coming soon... punitive measures that require companies to put locations in "underserved areas," or get kicked out completely, etc.

Happened in Columbus, GA, when I was a kid. Retail and restaurants bailed due to "underserved people" robbing them blind. Opened nice new stores that thrived on north side of town. "Community leaders" railed against it and called it racist, of course.

When bars on windows don't work because they bust thru walls and ceilings... when you can't expect people to pick up their own trash, etc etc... you get the drift.

It is by design.

The people in charge do this to cement power and get votes from the really stupid.

The really stupid do all this stuff and then get shocked when businesses close and point blank say they were the reason for it.

I think that a lot of stores are deciding to jump rather than get pushed as of now.

They are seeing a bunch of this shite happening elsewhere and are likely looking at their own shrinkage numbers to see if they are in danger of being next.

My wife was born and raised in San Diego, then Murrieta, then Long Beach. I've been there numerous times. Even SoCal is liberal as frick if you're near the coast. Orange County and the inland parts are good though.

That’s chump change. It’s less than $3,000 an hour. Those “shoppers” need to up their game.

It is hard to rack up better numbers when most high dollar small sized merchandise is locked up.

Jewelry is behind a counter if they have it and isn’t nice enough to be high dollar if it is at Target.

Video games are easily concealable, especially a Switch cartridge, but most high dollar ones are under lock and key. Etcz

I've been to that target many times. It wasn't that bad before covid. SF has turned into a wasteland since the pandemic. I was there on Wednesday and it was like a ghost town. No restaurants open, everything shuts down by 8 pm.

When shoplifting is no longer considered a crime... obviously crime would be down.

Target is based in Minnesota. Home of George Floyd and BLM. They may fire the management for CLOSING the store.

Chronicle dutifully reported that “the five stores slated to close had fewer than two recorded shoplifting incidents a month on average since 2018”

Most incidents are not reported because there is no reason to do so. The police cannot arrest or take the criminals to jail so why would anyone report it.

I hope every single business in California closes and the people there starve. That is what they deserve.
