It's because most of us saw a movie in the 1960s that was about the greatest attack by an infectious disease ever. The movie was 'The Green Slime.' They tried a 'Total Quarantine'. It didn't work.

So, today when my fellow senior citizens hear a story about the horror and death from Covid they go to sleep and remember this image in their dreams:

My Grandpa isn’t scared, he’s 94 & knows he has lived his life
He has served his country, raised his family, watched his kids, grandkids & great grandkids grown up & lived a great life

He wants to be with his family, not spending the last of his time here locked in a nursing home room away from everyone he loves

A very strong salute to your grandpa, our country needs "MEN", not wimps. Thank him for us all for his service.

Old people remember when news was news and some of them still trust what is on TV.

I think there's a difference between old men and old women. Old women are afraid of everything. Old men are not afraid of Covid but their goal in day to day life is to not get bitched at by the old lady. So, they comply and wear a mask to keep the peace.

My experience has been that older people aren't nearly as concerned as their risk factor would suggest. I've seen more older people going about their normal lives than 20-somethings...who honestly seem to be the MOST hysterical about the entire pandemic despite their relative risk.

You may be right. My experience is primarily in grocery stores. If an old man is shopping alone he's not wearing a mask. If he's shopping his wife they are both wearing.

They are not with the wife at the gas station. Nobody wears a mask there.

Agreed. We lost my mom's sister in August to it, but she had several co-morbities and had been seriously ill in the hospital before she caught it.

My mom is in her early 8-s and a 2 time cancer survivor. We were with her a couple of weeks ago for the day, and the next day we had a scare that my wife might have it (she didn't). But we were both really apologetic to my mom, and her response was "I'd rather take the small risk of catching it from one of you than to live my life isolated away from everyone."

Speaking out of age 71, I’d like to amend your thesis. Because we saw news that was really news back in the day, most of us a smart enough to know that what calls itself news today is lies and propaganda.

In my parents’ case, nailed it.

Married 48 years and counting. Truer words have rarely been put in writing.

I can speak for my parents, who are in their late 70s. They are scared of covid because it has killed people they know.

Bobby Bowden just tested positive for covid.

The 90-year-old Bowden told the Tallahassee Democrat that he “feels good” and will be retested Monday.

“I don’t feel bad, yet,” Bowden told the newspaper. “I guess I can loaf around the rest of the week.”

According to the report, Bowden tested positive following a roughly two-week hospital stay for a leg infection after he had cancer spots removed.

I tell you what I’m afraid of: I’m afraid of idiots like you having the right to vote. Plenty of old ladies are tough as nails, and plenty of men, young and old, are wimps.

I agree. When Walter, Chet and David spoke to us a 5:30pm in the 60s and 70s, we knew they were telling us the truth.
