These past few weeks were a picnic compared to the meltdown that will happen when RBG leaves the bench.

I want Trump to nominate a conservative black female judge. Imagine the Dems trying to tank the nomination of the first black woman to the SC. Nominated by that racist sexist Trump no less.

Trump is starting to load up the lower courts also. Obama ignored this because he thought Hillary had it in the bag. LOTS of open seats and Trump is working on it. If we add some seats to the Senate in the mid terms it’s full speed ahead!
This^ is where Recess Appointments would be utilized.

While the Dems try to "obstruct, delay" by slow walking all these lower court appointments, slam through as recess appointments and force the Dems to act as soon as next session opens. Would see a lot more action in a shorter period. Might happen if R's red wave in the Senate occurs mid term as they gain a safer advantage.

This is something RBG should have done during the last administration
I'm convinced she didn't step down because she wanted her replacement to be another woman, appointed by the first woman president. It's a great example of identity politics backfiring bigly.

With Thomas, RBG and potentially Breyer (and outside chance of Sotomayor, based on health) - a 2-term Trump almost certainly appoints 4 justices with a reasonable chance of 5 and an outside, but appreciable chance of 6.

Can you imagine Hillary having this much sway? We wouldn’t even recognize this country in another 10 years....

Or, she's not actually the blatant political creature that both sides seem hell bent on making her out to be. While I fundamentally disagree with her judicial philosophy, this is a woman who was best friends with Scalia, who has decried the way Kavanaugh has been treated during the nomination process, and has generally behaved with professionalism and decorum in her decades on the bench.

I'm convinced that she didn't step down because she wanted to remain on the court for a while longer, full stop.

I agree with you. While I disagree with her judicial philosophy, she’s still had a great career as a jurist that shouldn’t be permanently stained by a few political missteps in her twilight years. She’s also been principled enough to reject the left’s treatment of Kav, which tells me even in her old age she’s not politically compromised.

I think she is above the politics but either she is incredibly egotistical or she wanted to make a statement (she's a huge feminist so this makes perfect sense).

She's spoken out publicly against the president, called him a faker. That seems pretty political to me.
