1) they want it there to block Trump just as much as the Dems do (if not moreso)
2) they are afraid of what the Dems would do if they had that power
3) Grassley would never support it (nor would other old guard)

No, stupid. You want to give the democrats an out by going nuclear. There is no reason to give them an endpoint they are hoping to achieve. The republicans are winning this policy fight without having to go nuclear. That doesn’t mean the democrats won’t do it one day, and they probably will, but you don’t end the fight you are winning prematurely just to hand your opponent a long term win for a short term gain. That’s called winning a battle but losing the war.
The problem the republicans have is with weak people like you who aren’t willing to fight based on policy. I’m perfectly comfortable with the government being closed for as long as it takes

Going to happen anyway.

The Dems gaining any power back is a joke and they’ve done it all on by themselves.
How bout frick what the Dems may do put em in their frickin place rinos and conservatives have no frickin guts

Open the door?
The door has been ripped from it's hinges and lit on fire for about 4 years now.

They’ll do that anyway. Maybe it would be an incentive for the worthless GOP to stop retiring and fight. Of course, that assumes they want to win.

Pubs for a long time have played not to lose while the Left says frick it and plays to win.
The Dems don’t worry about “what Pubs might do” or whether they offend any moderate to conservative voters.
It’s been a significant contributing factor to the country we find ourselves in today if you go back over these decades since Reagan left office with the Dem Party on life support at that time.

I don't understand why John Thune and the Senate GOP wont go nuclear
Because we will regret it later. Small progressive wishlist items that they wouldn’t rise to the level of going to the nuclear option over would then become routine.
What needs to happen are votes and subsequent Senate votes need to be scheduled for 6AM and 9:30 PM every day until these morons get tired of it and end the filibuster.

Getting rid of the filibuster is short-sighted, ask Harry Reid, if you can.

Even were they so bold, Trump probably would have a hard time hitting 50 on much, it would definitely smoke out a few more GOP roaches

The reason given is they're afraid next time the Dems have control they'll run roughshod

Then the literal SECOND the dems take a house, they'll do it so fast it will make your fricking head spin.

I’m registered No Party so not a “GOP purist”. I just don’t think the republicans are losing this shutdown fight so there’s no reason to give the democrats an out by going nuclear. There are 2 outcomes democrats want to achieve: more spending and/or the republicans go nuclear. There’s no reason to cave in either of those outcomes if you are winning

You are correct

Removing the filibuster would be stupid and short sighted. Trump is wrong on this.

This isn't about the damn shutdown. It's about every other agenda item.
