Has the Hostage Rescue Team ever rescued any hostages? Live hostages, that is.

Haven't read this thread because it's too long. The simple truth is that David Koresh made a weekly trip to town to the grocery store. The FBI and ATF knew this. If they suspected he was committing crimes they could have been waiting in the Kroger produce dept and arrested him by the Romaine Lettuce bin. They wanted a TV SWAT team raid instead.

Yup.
It was botched. It was a tragedy. Like Ruby Ridge it didn't have to go down the way it did at all.

If anything, it's a tragedy because it spawned the OKC bombing.

I hadn't thought about that, but you are correct.

The fact that you can vote is scary. Then again half the voters in this country are complete idiots as well.

Sex with minors. Oh no. Taboo.

Other posters made clear that it was unnecessary grandstanding by fbi.

It was a tragic loss of life.

It's a shame that if this would have never happened they would have had to look forward to a life of miseducation, manipulation, and possibly sexual slavery.

You should research something before you toss around allegations. Especially in a day and age where we know the govt plays fast and loose with the facts
quote:

In March and April, caseworkers returned and talked with children and adults; David and Rachel Koresh went to the CPS office for an interview. According to an official CPS statement, the children denied being abused in any way or knowing of others who had been. The adults denied abusing the kids, and examinations of children showed no physical injuries. CPS closed the case on April 30, 1992.

Without more hard evidence, even the report from the psychiatrists might not have been enough to prove child abuse in court.

You don't outright murder that many people based on suspicions and allegations from former disgruntled members

And it was absolutely murder, especially of the kids that had no ability to make their own choices

I don't see it as a failure of the FBI or Janet Reno. The sexual abuse of children cannot be allowed to continue. The fact that a child rapist burned himself doesn't even register on my tragedy radar.

Am I missing something?

THEY DROVE A GODDAMN TANK THROUGH THE WALL

you dont think they could have just chilled and let them surrender?

How did the ATF and FBI act as judge, jury, and executioner?

The dude was a weirdo, but he was often in Waco grocery shopping. ATF/FBI could have picked Koresh up many times without a fight.

I don't care for cults, but even wackoes in Waco have the right to a trial.

It was a tremendous show of force for a very contained situation. The "children" they were "trying to save" burned to death in a fire because the agencies got baited into what Koresh wanted.
