I think Russia tried to influence people who were not going to vote for Hillary anyway. Trump was the "beneficiary" of their efforts but probably had NO clue or involvement.

How could Trump be the beneficiary if in all likelihood the people you described, if they were gonna vote at all, they would have voted for him anyway? Sounds like a no net gain situation there.
