You would be shocked at the absurd waste the DOD has. I used to work for a company that sold to them. Every year like clock work they would call admit the end of fiscal year to buy whatever just to use up rest of their budget. On top of that we would also design special equipment for them. When they would go to buy the special equipment they could only buy so much directly from us. The rest of the orders had to be filled by other companies that would buy from us and then sell at an up charge to the dod. They were forced to have so much bought from women owned businesses, veteran owned business etc…Always blew my mind.

Dude, when the Pentagon spends $5000 for a hammer you can EASILY cut that budget in half.

Last time I checked none of our equipment and technology is made in house. We have to pay defense contractors to build the shite and if you want the best it’s not cheap. Hyper sonic missles, drone technology, jets that are better than our enemies. Military technology is not pencils and erasers don’t compare it to dept of education.

Hell, they’re saving money by not paying trans soldiers to get treatment and sit out 4-5 months, so I imagine there’s some other areas they can cut back/out that will help save money, but not hurt the overall defense budget.

They are cutting out the fat. Our military will actually grow from these cuts so we can use the money on tested weapons and vehicles that are ready for production or nearing it. We need to build another dozen or so Arleigh Burke destroyers just to start with and we really need to do work o the merchant vessel side also which in a war with China will be as important as warships to transport everything where we need it.

We can cut the budget in half and still get our military back to the strength it needs to be. Our politicians and all their buddies just won’t get their normal share of the pie.

I agree that it’s a little early to start massive cuts in the department of defense, unless we already know that this is just blatant waste. China is rapidly growing its military.

Can you argue why the military has done to justify the amount of money currently being spent? They haven’t passed an audit in years so fiscal efficiency is obviously a concern.
