there would be exceptions for food staples
Under the National Retail Sales Tax plan, there would be no exceptions, because 1) that's a slippery slope and how we got to our current Byzantine income tax deduction morass, and 2) families at/below the poverty line would be shielded from the cost of the tax expected to be paid by a family their size due to the prebate (see video embedded above).

My wife no longer has to work the street.

Not if there’s mass refusal to pay. Our forefathers fought a revolution over some taxes on tea and stamps etc. I don’t think they could’ve ever imagined we’d one day have a fed that was this abusive
I don't disagree; however, we have to have a government.......although I'd prefer that it be much smaller and not so far-reaching. Still, the vast majority of the budget is entitlements. Everyone likes to say "yeah, frick taxes!" until they don't get their social security check and no doctor will see them because Medicare quit paying.

If enough people like you "sat it out", they'd just raise the tariffs to a point where you would ultimately pay.
But what about the ungodly amount of people that have been able to "sit out" paying income taxes, Because they got exempted or given credits on the low end?
Now everyone pays, based on what they consume. Seems a whole lot more revenue is generated when 335M people are participating

Well, everything would cost more, BUT, more of my paycheck would go in the bank to help pay for everything that costs more.
Do you really believe this?
Since the 70's minimum wage has been a joke. They argue about5 it for years so that when it comes the y have increased your cost far more than the wage increase amounted to. We had no taxes in the 1800's and what happened. Robber Barrons rose to power at the expense of the middle class and lower class.
Viewed another way, say a town had 20K population and 10K were white and 10K were slaves. It is not like every white person had a slave but that a handful owned most of the slaves and most owned none. The Industrial Revolution turned us from agrarian to manufacturing which needed skilled labor. Imagine a Robber Barron owning your entire town and you could never get ahead. Wage slavery is still slavery.

If that included allowing me to convert my 401k and IRA to Roth tax free, I’d be dancing in the street.

Without income tax, I could decide how my money is spent instead of some faceless bureaucrat or elected representative who wants to throw my money away on useless shite I oppose.

I'm not sure you will like no income tax as you think.

All those folks who declare no income and , thus, pay no income tax would howl like banshees. I'd be among those amused at their angst.
The gray economy would adapt, but be more of a target, and that, too, would be good.

I'd have 30 to 40K more per year. Not really that much.

It would make my country more fair and just.

You can say the same for all the champions of relative tax breaks--and we have no shortage of those here.

Hell, my husband could retire in 2 years if we didn’t pay federal taxes and we would be extremely comfortable for the rest of our lives.

What kind of left wing, high stepping commie would downvote the idea that Americans keep their money and corrupt government gets less from our citizens?

They would not, ultimately, keep less money from citizens.
We would just be paying a lot more taxes in other areas.
That's why reduced spending is the only way to really permit Americans to keep more money, net.

The best part would be the criminals that we call the congress and the senate would cease to want to run.
