After the GFC I plotted out how long it would take the US to collapse based on continued debt accrual, it was something like 2032-2035. Debt accrual slowed down somewhat after the GFC, so it began pushing that timeframe back (since I was basing it on continued ~$1T deficits). Now, we're in overdrive with deficits expected to be $2T+ annually for the forecastable future.

If the Fed ever starts downplaying their traditional 2% inflation peg (especially if they raise it), go ahead and write it down that we're in the final lap before collapse because what they would really be saying is "the USD has been inflated so much and for so long that we can no longer control it." That would be bad.

As much as I hate to admit it and as a cusp boomer, our generation bears a whole lot of responsibility - if only because the largest wave of this nonsense was created on our watch.

Face it, 1960s 1970s, peace/love/understanding sex/drugs/rock&roll was more fun than really thinking through all the other BS that we gave a wink and nod to.

Us boomers can try to make amends and pick up some of the pieces but, rightly or wrongly, it’s now in the hands of the new generations.

Personally, I have faith that they will rise to the occasion…

If you are 67 you should remember the 1970s. We had…
quote:

Social unrest in the 1970s USA stemmed from Vietnam War disillusionment, racial tensions, economic struggles (stagflation), and battles over cultural shifts (feminism, gay rights, environmentalism), leading to major protests like the Mayday anti-war actions, Red Power & Chicano movements, and school busing riots, all while political crises like Watergate eroded trust.

quote:

There were, in effect, two different top rates depending on the type of income an individual received. This distinction between "unearned" income (like dividends or interest) and "earned" income was a defining characteristic of the tax code at the time. The Statutory Top Rate (70%): The official, highest marginal tax bracket was 70%. This rate applied to investment income, also known as "unearned" income, such as dividends from stock holdings or interest from savings. The Maximum Tax on Earned Income (50%): Starting in 1972, a special provision was implemented that capped the effective marginal tax rate on "earned" income—primarily wages, salaries, and professional fees—at 50%. This policy was designed to offer some relief to individuals whose primary income came from their labor rather than investments, effectively creating a more favorable environment for active work.

The country was similarly close to societal collapse, yet we pulled away from it. The young man that you were then probably did not feel like the end was nigh, but the older man that you are now feels a helplessness in similar circumstances. All is not lost.

No offense, but your soft, lazy, spoiled generation IS the blame. Wanting the big jobs and big houses, but not willing to put in the work. That's a blanket response I know, because there are some good ones, but by and large, just a spoiled, entitled generation.

I'm glad someone does...because what I see is a bunch of entitled, video playing (wtf is Dragons and Dungeons bs) lazy individuals that bitch about boomers and want what they want now, without doing the work. I think something drastic will need to happen before they wake up and get serious. I mean look at the young generation now...again, as a blanket....but they are and have been indoctrinated by the left's woke bs, which is the wrong direction.

It’s difficult to hold out a great amount of hope for the longer term.

Too many people have entitlement mentality and many voters don’t really take the time or effort to try and make informed choices but instead vote on emotions.

We are less than a year away from off-year elections and if the Dems regain power in Congress you can officially stick a fork in any notion that any bad actors will ever be held accountable from the Clinton / Obummer / Joetato regimes.

I like much of what DJT has done but most all of it can quickly be undone as soon as he’s out of office.

The country seems hellbent intent on an authoritarian Leftist future and sometimes people just have to learn their lesson the hard way.

No offense, but you are pussy and expect to be spoon fed. Luckily, there are young people that are not losers like you. You will still be bitching that life was not handed to you when you are old. You are loser and will always be a loser. Your parents must be proud of you.

'm 67 and I can tell you 30 years ago I had no idea how quickly the US would succumb to leftist/marxist influence. I saw a poll a few days ago that showed 51% of Americans under age 40 had a favorable view of socialism.

Farmers hated socialism until they got their tariff bailout checks. Again.
Now socialism good.

True realization started with a close examination of Obama’s off the cuff remarks. “Managed decline “, “fundamental change”, “ Constitution a document of negative rights”, etc., etc. “Replacement Theory “, “the Great Reset “ and “Transnational Progressivism “ (which explains the whole intellectual strategy).

The old order must go away for a new to replace it; I guess that could be labeled collapse. We’ll soon find out if too-down managed DEI-based Socialism and herding cats’ will fly. My guess is given the numbers and human psychology and instincts, no way minus massive reductions in human populations.

It’ll take Jesus to bail us out.

All empires fall.

The swiftness the USA has gotten to the precipice has been surprising. The communist seeds planted in academia in the 50s and 60s definitely bore its fruit.

I thought it would fall on my children late in life and their kids to be honest. My children are around 30. I was raised where socialism and communism were as big of cuss words as the f-bomb, and now we have half a country that openly wants the shite. It was a great ride.

I definitely would have thought conservatives would be pushing censorship and not the left. And not fully supported by the media. And not full censorship of the opposition party. Just the same old no sex, nudity or violence in books, tv shows and movies.

Instead we have the left who would love to be arresting people like the UK for mean tweets.

I agree with this statement, but in fairness all the Boomers I know retired on pensions and their work ethic came with a pot of gold at the end of rainbow. Blue collar folks had a path even.

Younger generations have no “prize” and the struggle feels more and more futile.

Who comes to rescue the good ol U S of A? Where does our bailout come from?

No country in history has led more and done more for other country’s. You can’t be the superpower, police, nursemaid, banker, entrepreneur, innovator, Santa Claus, for the world forever.

Rome led for many years but they led with an iron fist during their glory days. That’s the only way you stay on top. You can’t just keep giving forever.

This was easily predictable. When you import low iq uneducated unskilled Third Worlders and put them on all kinds of entitlements and ‘services’ your country will suffer. We have anywhere from 30 to 40 million of these people here many (not all) who dislike our country and are just here for the free handouts to send money back to the shitholes they came from. This is Rome 2.0.

Well yea, but have you seen “Trump’s” economy?! He hasn’t fixed it and overcome this in less than a year!
