Did Chase go? Did Shelvin? Did the other players?

If they didn't have a problem with Trump then, why would they have a problem now? What has he done differently since then that he hasn't been doing and saying all along? Why would they go to the White House back in February to meet Trump, but not play football at LSU because Coach O said something nice about him?

None of that makes sense.

It seems clear to me that the guys opting out are looking at the season as being a huge mess, Covid looming over their shoulder, and they realize that they likely won't even play in front of fans and full stadiums and the whole thing is going to be a pain in the tail. They are probably just making the best decision for them and since they are for sure going to the NFL, they've decided to skip the looming disaster season.

I don't like it. I don't agree with it. But, to pin this on Coach O because of something he said or didn't say about Trump doesn't make any sense at all.

So we get mad at them for not going, but then hold it against them when they do go?

(Chase did go by the way)

Seems like double jeopardy.

Also, THEY DIDN'T DROP OUT FOR POLITICAL REASONS!!!

If they did, they would say they did because the media would celebrate them for it.

You are making my point.

That is what I'm saying.

The political angle is dumb. They are opting out because the season is a mess and they don't need to fool with it. Who knows what is going to happen?

I disagree with the decision, but I'm not then. You go to school to get a job and make money. If they have millions guaranteed in front of them and they don't want to go through what this season is going to be and it won't be held against them, then so be it. Best of luck to them.

That's my fault, I only read the first two sentences of your post when I should've read the whole thing.

What's funny is, when Alabama went during the Obama years all the players said it was lame as frick and it was basically, "don't fricking touch anything and gtfo asap"

Trump for all the shite he got about the fast food buffet actually fed the players. The LSU team played get the gat and no one said a thing to them.

I really hope this isn't part of the issue. Truly. Hell Trump even told Chase he was going to be so rich soon to his face. Real racist that guy.

Fookin hell

Don’t kid yourself. When Trump was talking and cutting jokes, most of them looked like they would rather pass a kidney stone than crack a smile. God forbid one of their homies see them on TV and think they didn’t hate OMB.

Trump gave Chase mad props and actually asked him to step up and say a few words.

This racist crap against Trump by some blacks is ridiculous.

I think Obama is a piece of crap, but if I were invited to the White House under his administration I would have been there in a heartbeat and given nothing by respect to the president of our country.

If you think them visiting the White House on a traditional NC trip indicates support for DT, you’re foolish as they come.

You can try and convince yourself all day long......

I think it was good to see that personnel in charge was making sure that they took in the moment. I don’t care who you are, what your party lines are, if you get an invite to the White House by a sitting president...go.

So are you supposing that someone is to give up a once in the lifetime opportunity to venture inside of one of our nation's most iconic historical landmarks in a team celebration just because they don't like a person there? Not trying to be condescending, but that's a bit crass. Put yourself in his shoes. Would you pass up an opportunity like that?

People are allowed to venture and tour certain sections of the White House, but that's not the same as having your team honored with a ceremony and welcomed by the numerous staff there. I think most people in that situation would try not to make the situation about themselves and in being a leader withhold their own personal subjective views for the sake of the rest of the team.

That does not mean they didn't have a problem with that person then. They can still be accepting of the opportunity and also spend more time with their teammates (some of whom were to be draft in the upcoming months) by attending. Not to mention the unfavorable label that people get for declining that level of invitation.

However, if you are implying that Chase is opting-out of the season, because of Coach O or Coach O's support of any president, I don't feel the correlation is there. I understand it more from a safety perspective. Many coaches felt that the players and staff would be safer on-campus than at-home, which proved to be somewhat false because nearly the entire offensive line had to be quarantined. What if that were to have happened during the season? Think about how long it will take those guys to get back into shape and conditioning. It does not take long for an athlete to lose their conditioning, I believe studies show that about 1-2 weeks of no activity is all it takes, and before that you'll feel the cardio strain. What if it happens to other position groups while in Fall Camp? What happens to a young person 2-5 years from now who had COVID or 5-10 years from now? Will they start to develop cardiovascular or other bodily issues down the line because of being exposed? It's too many questions that have been left unanswered and not a lot of information into how all of this will work itself out.

I want football as much as the next person, but from a realistic sense, I understand any player who has worries and doubts about the season. Or they just simply want to use the year to focus on what they want to focus on in terms of preparation for the draft.

Do you really honestly think the president has much say or involvement in the way the ceremony goes? Please, tell me you are joking with your statement.

Do you think Trump dressed the table? What do you think happens during these events? What Alabama players said that? Not, to mention how distasteful that would be to say after such a humbling event. What other ceremonies of the same sort did they compare it to for them to make that judgment upon it? Give some details.

Funny, if any of the LSU players were to have said that earlier this year, I feel like you'd be the person to do backflips fuming with anger, disown them, and tell them to transfer.

I don’t believe OP was saying that at all.

The point is, apparently their non support didn’t keep them from going, when in fact, other athletes have refused to go because of their dislike for him.

But then to turn around and quit football because their coach made a benign compliment?

Those two facts do not correlate. In fact, they’re the exact opposite of common sense.

LSU players didn’t want to be there. Look at the difference between meeting President Obama and Trump.
Trump
President Obama
Now who enjoyed meeting who more?
