Youre quite the drama queen.

Panama owning the Panama canal isnt going to cause the demise of our nation, slick.

6 months ago you folks wanted all foreign wars ended and troops brought home.

Now youre war mongering with the best of them.

Some of you people are legit dolts with your assumptions. I've never been anti foreign war when it's needed guy. I hate how we waste time by being polite about winning and how we don't get paid back. Our nations power has been built in using strength when needed. It's in our nature to fight.

Our "leadership" have allowed China to infiltrate negatively without firing a shot, so now we may end up fighting them. I've always hated how Obama/Biden/Kerry have not enforced the Monroe doctrine. Here we are now, so we'll have to figure out what to do.

Don't worry up there you'll never have to worry about, other than making comments on a board about how we shouldn't do anything about losing the nation.

Bring called a drama queen by a coward hiding up in Alaska doesn't faze me.

No one cares about them owning it, but them letting China control it. Keep hidden up there while you post.

Dumbass. The Chinese do not control any aspect of transit for the canal. They do not engage in any maintenance they do not collect fees and they do not determine ingress and egress to the canal. They have what amounts to docking facilities at the coast. We do the same....at the same locations

This is contrived bullshite

China isnt controlling the Panama canal, nor is it collecting our fees.

Youre getting terrible information.

Chinese companies are at each end of the canal. Originally were companies from Hong Kong, but now Chinese. Chinese companies are controlled by their govt.

Keep falling for the "Chinese are the good guys" foolishness.

this trope is one of the funniest you dipshits throw out there. A guy moves to an uber conservative state, MAGA melts down.

Panama's transit fees escalated through the roof over the past ten years. Recently, fees have reached into the millions. About 3/4ths of canal traffic are US ships.

Seems to be an ongoing theme around here

Yeah, attacking allies that are not zealous enough. It’s perennial in populist revolts that they start consuming their own. See the French Revolution, or its daughter, the Russian Revolution. In each case after miraculously gaining power the great revolutionary forces that were required kept churning and redirected toward its former allies - Robespierre and Trotsky, for examples.

ETA: To illuminate the forces at work today, across the Western world, Simon Schama’s Citizens is a great read about the French Revolution.

So has everything else, due to inflation and covid retardation.

So youre answer is to socialize it?

Probably misled. I dont know if you watch many of those congressional hearings, but they are simply dog and pony shows.

Been a lot of it lately.

Just in the past couple of months, the MAGAphiles have declared war on Greenland, Canada, Mexico and now Panama.

Rote response. Let's explore it. How would "inflation" drive canal transit costs? How did covid retardation drive transit in 2023-2024?

Are you under the impression that the Panama Canal is privately owned? Confiscating it would transfer ownership from one country to another. The threat of confiscation might force less monopolistic behavior. Neither of these are socializing.

Simplest/easiest way to block it, IF they wanted to, is to scuttle ships in the locks. It would take weeks or months to clear the locks. If China is deciding which ships go through when they could arrange for several of their ships (they have many commercial ships) to be in the locks at the same time and then scuttle them all.
I'm not saying thats what they are going to do but the ChiComm military would be remiss to not have a plan to do that in the event of a war

No.

Our govt taking it over to produce lower fees for merchants is socializing costs.
