This bit is scaring the hell out of service industry workers. Long time professionals are concerned that they will be cut out of the social security system. They are worried that if the tips arent counted they will have zero purchasing power when buying a car or a house. No one over 21 years old wants this no tax on tips suggestion. This is a horrible idea.
That is truly an ignorant take.
Right now, tip are reported and taxed. Cash tips are reported at 10% (the minimum reportable tip). Under the proposed policy tip will be reported and not taxed. Tips will count as income, they just won’t be taxed and by not being taxed cash tips will be reported at their full amount.
Service workers reported income may go up, not down. That will take care of the credit worry. If they are truly worried about retirement, they can save the tax savings in an IRA.

This narrative that everyone is broke but spending on credit is a joke.
Yes people always overutilize available credit. Is it worse now than ever before? No.

Pleae explain to me how this works. Say I own a restaurant, how do I decleare some income and not the other. How do we keep the tipped income out of the equation? If I do own a restaurant it would be so awesome not to pay matching taxes.
So under this system the worlds largest restaurant chains like Brinker or Darden will save billions on employee taxes.
Do you realize the average restuarant worker gets most of their income tax returned to them at the end of the year. The loss in corporate taxes will drive that national deficit up even higher.
Im a republican and no serious fiscally conservative person in their right mind could back Trump.

You got any evidence for that baw?

In 2024’s first quarter, personal consumption expenditures represented nearly 68% of the nation’s GDP.
A solid job market, low unemployment and wage increases help support consumer spending and a growing economy.
However, total credit card debt in the U.S. topped $1 trillion for the first time ever in the second quarter of 2023 and has moved even higher.

I imagine Memphis and Shelby County will go blue. But in the eastern suburbs it's all Trump. Most people don't have political signs in their yards one way or the other.

I'm in Phoenix, and don't really hang out much with any people from the DEM side. I can say I don't see any Harris signs out here, and really didn't see many Biden/ Harris signs in 2020, so don't know if it means anything..
I have one friend that is an Independent and he voted for Biden in 2020, and blamed Trump for the Jan 6 ordeal. He seems like he is voting his pocketbook this time though and voting Trump.

Everything is bad. Not just politics. Life in this country is fricking miserable.
I get that nothing brings out voters more than being disgruntled, but what in the world is so bad? I'm just not seeing where people are miserable. Best I can tell people are living their bes lives in 2024.
I think people, even people that make a good income are feeling some crunch, but have hope it can get better. But people that aren't making a great income, don't own a house at a good mortgage rate, and paying 2 to 3 times more in rent are probably hurting bad and not living the best life. Wouldn't blame them if they are pissed, a lot of them are young folks barely getting by.

In 2019 the CC debt was $900 billion and went down to something like $800 billion during covid. That move makes sense since there was nothing you could spend money on at the time. So what is CC debt up? 2-3%? The banks keep saying that the balances of money in the bank went up significantly since 2020 and hasnt changed that much. People have more money now than the used to have. Jamie Dimon who is very GOP just said the banker consumer is doing well.

Who is saying this?
There were a lot of reports earlier this year that Americans had finally depleted their excess savings from Covid.

They didn’t know who he was 3 days ago. They love the version of him that has been portrayed in the media. But the more we are learning, he appears to be a creepy socialist who lies about everything on his record.
