So you're saying there aren't people who see these statues that are made to feel like they don't matter? Because society is celebrating these people who committed acts of rebellion against the United States in order to own other people

I'm saying >75% of the population of these cities were unaware the monuments were even there.

There was no spotlight on them until, out of nowhere, folks started demanding their removal.

Don't make him think too deeply about his rehashed tag lines.

They are making themselves feel that way. I cannot make you mad, you make the choice to be mad.

I'm arguing against irrational behavior.

I, personally, don't give a shite about the statues.

Are you implying emotions aren't reactionary? This is a whole different argument.

AggieDub14, many women believe they have been subjugated by men and made to feel like they don't matter.
How then should we deal with existing statues of males?

I would never discount the feelings of Black Americans with regard to the Civil War.
But to act like the removal of statues and the renaming of streets and schools will cure what ills us is disingenuous.
This is creating a powder keg.

How is this a reason to keep oppressive monuments?

Those monuments are not oppressing anyone.....cut the shite and hyperbole. The African American underclass oppresses themselves far more effectively than any of today's racists or old statues could ever have done.

People can feel whatever they want. I feel some kinda way about them. Not inferior, but i can't speak for others.

My point is that isn't the reason they were erected, as you claimed.

I'm actually in your side mostly when it comes to confederate stuff, but your arguments are piss poor, new army

They aren't meant to help blacks. They think it's helpful to tear down everyone else instead of raising up blacks through policies and ideas that actually help their communities to break free of entitlement-dependence and cultural rot. No, they think the fault lies with white people and it's preferable to make whitey the enemy and tear him down than to raise up black people to make their lives better.

Translation| this wasn't a problem when black people just accepted systematic racism, something that I don't know anything about.

Nothing tangible is gained by their removal.

What is gained by their presence, other than some kind of psychological satisfaction for certain people?

You're comparing singling out a small group with extrapolating actions to a population. Some men are bad, but that doesn't mean you have to stop honoring all men.

The small group is confederate war "heroes". I personally see the merit in removing the statues because these men were rebels and they sought out racial oppression. I see the point made by minorities in America that these are symbolic in nature. I personally don't think it should be a big deal, but because others are deeply bothered by them, I think they should be moved to a place like a museum for viewing and educational purposes.

They built statues to make themselves feel more important and for black people to continue to feel less than equal. It was the Jim Crow era.
