If southern states only "tried" to secede, why did they have to get Congress' permission to be readmitted to the Union?

And celebrating the Confederacy doesn't exactly open up an intellectual discussion on things. Just a bunch of rednecks will drive around with Confederate flags hanging off their trucks. Otherwise you would call it Civil War Remembrance Month or something like that.

While your bias is clear here, you and I aren't terribly far apart on the crux of the issue.

The power to do something doesn't mean you should do it. That goes for removing statues and declaring "Confederate Heritage Month" - certainly it can be done. I doubt it should have been done.

But nuance and context are literally wasted on most Americans.

I’m not doing your homework for you. There were 500k slaves in the north before the end o the War. Not a single one of those 500k northern slaves were freed from the emancipation proclamation. Why not? I thought the north was fighting to free slaves. Why would a country fighting a war to free slaves continue to have 500k slaves til the end of the war?
Where? Because if you are going to call Kentucky a northern state then you are incorrect as well. Delaware and Maryland never seceded but tried to be neutral because they knew they would get destroyed if they picked a side. Maryland pretty much was taken over by the federal government and officially abolished slavery during the war.

Same way I feel about Black history or queer parades - have at it. Doesn’t affect me one bit, and people that get offended don’t have to participate.

When I say secede I am talking about their overall effort to secede and form a separate entity. Maybe they did but it was short lived and ultimately failed as they were forced back in.

Sounds like a great time for folks to get together and celebrate their Confederate heritage.
I have neither the time, nor the ambition to explain the intricacies of Confederate heritage to liberals, SJWs or anyone else suffering from a mental disorder.

Ill just leave you with what my Grandfather told me:
"A southern man does not show his heritage with a flag. He is the representation of the south himself. And this is done by being a gentleman, preserving chivalry, having class, being a hard worker and the pursuit of intelligence."

The South is littered with Confederate statues. Most should come down, some can stay.

Why on Earth are you embarrassed by a group of people celebrating where they came from?

Are you this stupid? Most fought to defend their families and homes. By union invaders. So you’d be ashamed by that? Gtfo libtard. I’ll bet you are one of those morons who think states only seceded over slavery? Nothing else? Or that the UNION flag never flew over slavery way longer than the confederate flag? Did u know that confederate Secretary of State Judah Benjamin told the Yankees he’s give up slavery if they could still secede? The yanks said no.

Maybe folks should just get over it and not be so offended?

Liberals want to remove anything related to Jefferson and Washington as well, so where do we stop?

It was a pretty simple question

I just find it funny that liberal white people think they know what's best for everybody, especially minorities. That's a racist way of thinking and they are blind to it.

My childhood friend DeSean, just got promo'd at Fedex to almost 6 figure salary. His mom stopped and talked to me about it when I saw her in the grocery store. She always made him work and never took any of his excuses. It's almost like she raised him that way so he could have a better life for himself in the land of opportunity

Everybody has a chance to be successful in this country. I was a glorified janitor at a hospital almost 5 years ago. Now i'm the head fry dropper on day shift. You can raise your standard of living if you actually try.
