Congress is so worthless .

So busy worried about mandating masks inside the building and all that instead of actual issues and problems

Or, perhaps, immediate housing for recent invaders. Replacement theory is a bitch.

ETA: The replies in this thread fail to see the big picture.

I think it’s atrocious that an eviction moratorium was in place at all.

Lol Biden passing it off to state and local governments. What a douche.

That's how you know it's a clusterfrick. The feds rarely kick things down to the states unless it's a dumpster fire.

Imagine getting paid state and federal unemployment for over a year, as well as getting 3 rounds of stimulus checks, not being required to pay rent, and you still can't afford rent...

What was this money spent on?

More than a year.

Anyone who was in the process of being evicted when the moratorium went into effect was already behind on their rent.

Most assholes just decided to stop paying once it became clear that they weren’t going to be evicted for it in the short term.

Dispurse funds to whom, Joe? The people living rent free for the past year, or the landlords that haven’t collected rent for a year from the people living rent free?

Hookers and blow.

There were stories of people with apartments in Manhattan costing thousands a month with them, their spouse, and multiple roommates all living there. None of them were paying that shite despite getting unemployment with a Covid bonus on top of it.

Glad they didn't extend it

How is this a good thing, with potentially millions of Americans being kicked out of their residences and on the the streets homeless? It's got all the earmarks of a catastrophe.

Congress better get their a@@es in motion and call a special session.

There is “unable to pay rent” and there is “unwilling to pay rent”.

A vast majority of people caught up in this are the latter, IMHO, since it was made public they couldn’t get evicted for nonpayment.

Problem is that the bill comes due at some point and you either have to pay it or GTFO.
