By your description, it sounds like a niche industry that needs to be propped up by high premiums and government laws and regulations.

When you think about it, the trial lawyers are kinda right. The insurance company's money is doing the Louisiana attorney more good in Louisiana than in places like Hartford, CT

Whole lot of PI attorneys trying to defend their profession in here

You lot have no talent and I’ll be happy when you’re working as used car salesmen or out of state. LA is a disgusting place bc of all your absurd lawsuits. LA residents pay out the arse for car insurance bc of your lawsuits. Then LA residents also pay more in taxes bc you clog the legal system with this crap. And you’ve created a class of people that are dependent on trying to earn money by being involved in these lawsuits. The world shouldn’t be “you hit my car, now you’re gonna pay for my rent!” shite happens in the world, people make mistakes. The settlement should fit the case, but rarely does it do that bc of our fricked up legal system. And on top of that, all you losers clutter our beautiful state with disgusting billboards promising fat checks

I do appreciate the admission by Kenny that most plaintiff attorneys would be out of a job, the implication being that they would be incapable of adapting to something else. In other words, surviving on emotion and bullshite doesn't translate well in all legal disciplines.

Usually when people ask for money for candidates, they talk about how the candidate will be best for the citizens, he's a great guy, etc.

It's pretty rare for them to be so... transparent. "If you don't vote for this guy, it's going to affect us. Screw everyone else".

And people say lawyers aren't honest... that e-mail is about as honest as it gets!

Well considering the email was sent to attorneys, I would expect the message to be framed to their personal interests.

I mean, if you want to go down the line, private business owners (attorneys) pay for it out of cases they win/settle, those fees coming from the insurance companies of insured drivers who caused an injury to someone else.

Sorry buddy but the consumer pays the insurance company; thus the consumer pays.

The consumer in this case being the person who caused a crash and an injury upon someone.

Like I said... it's pretty rare to see such naked, stark honestly.

I understand the message and for the intended audience, it may well hit home and accomplish the intended ideas.

Actually all consumers pay, not just the person at fault.

Based on what? My insurance is very cheap even though I have a large policy and has never gone up on me.

Lawyers in Louisiana are desperate because there is no other business to get into. General counsel? For what companies? Estate planning? How many people have the money for that? Family law? See above. You’re left with the majority of lawyers working for government or for insurance defense or PI. It’s a symptom of the state’s economy being a pile of shite. Tort reform wouldn’t have the effect you think it would.

Can’t really fault the PI attorney for making money off of a system that allows them to practice the way they do.

The consumer in this case being the citizen who must purchase car insurance as a condition of driving in this state. Frivolous lawsuits drive up the cost of insurance for everyone.

Rispone could not have paid someone to write a better ad for him. I was going to vote for him, now I’d run through a brick wall for him if the injury attorneys are this scared.

Very accurate post. Glut of attorneys being licensed for too long a period combined with lack of "9 to 5" legal careers and non-PI retained representation as you mentioned.

Apparently you don’t know how insurance works.

Say a 22 year old consumer is at fault and injures your client. His insurance company defends him and is liable. The settlement or judgment could be well into six figures is circumstances warrant.

The 22 year old may have paid his insurance company for coverage only a year or two. There’s no way he’s paid the insurance company six figures., but we all know the insurance company got enough money from you, me and the guy behind the tree to make it good.

Now I believe anyone severely injured should be compensated, but I don’t think we need to pay the lawyers as much as we do.

I am shocked that many former barristers can pass the insurance licensing exam.

what i despise most of all is you are "required" to get a lawyer to settle even the most mundane accident claims, even with your own insurance carrier in most cases.

i had a routing fender bender with about $1k damage to both vehicles and we both agreed to call it even if the insurance companies agreed. well his and mine both insisted on lawyers and after the case was settled we both ended up agreeing to equal settlements and both insurance companies spent about $5k on lawyers to settle it

Sorry, but I don't believe a word of that
