It increased premiums, led to my doctor going strictly private pay, and expanded medicaid.

And McCain thumbed down the bill to repeal it.

The Dems had near supermajorities in both houses, and I’ve always thought the purpose was to destabilize the way insurance was done to usher in single payer universal health care. As usual, however, the Dems overplayed their hand.

His lasting legacy: saving an entitlement he knew was destructive to the country all because he hated Donald Trump.

Basically, health insurance companies wrote the ACA for Obama. It's possibly the biggest piece of crony corporatism in my lifetime.

Yep. I said at the time that all we need to know about it is that the "healthcare" companies were all for it in its final form.

Pelosi: "we have to pass it to know what's in it." Quite possibly the stupidest endorsement of legislation I'd ever heard from a person in Congress. But, she didn't care. She knew it would pass and that she and the healthcare industry were both going to get richer.

They threw us a couple of bones to try to get us off the trail... Like pre-existing conditions being covered when we change providers.

But, it was the largest grift ever for that industry, until COVID at least. Sort of like the 2008 too big to fail was the largest single grift for the banking industry.

The only positive portion is it helped protect rural hospitals in states that expanded Medicaid. That did cost money but it kept access available. The exchange is a piece of crap overpriced insurance.

Rural hospitals closing is not a good sign for most of the country. Lack of access to emergency care and basic medical care will drive most industries and people to more urban areas.

The affordable care act made healthcare less affordable.

My family BC/BS policy through our small business prior to Obama cost me $400/month for a family of four. Same plan at the end of his term was going to cost us $2000/month. This forced me out of the family business and into a corp job with benefits. All small business owners we know have a spouse that works a corp job specifically for benefits. Totally chaps my arse watching the Obamacare commercial where some yoga teacher is getting healthcare with a pre-existing condition for $4/month.

Our healthcare system is broken from the top down. Of all the people Trump has surrounded himself with, RFKjr is the one I'm most excited about. I truly hope he nukes the whole damn thing and starts us over.

It made everything way more expensive, added tons of red tape, and made insurance and big pharma companies rich as hell. It was a mass money laundering scam paid for by working Americans.

Which is why democrats love it.

What exactly did it even do? Did it make anything better for anyone?

It gave free health care to millions of people. How could you not know that?
