I just bought a Berkey water filter system. Still waiting on the mercury filter, but it gets everything else out including bacteria. The test is to pour in red dye that looks like fruit punch. Came out completely clear. They provide the scientific tests that prove it removes everything. Apparently you can put in African river water an it is completely fresh. Only thing is you have to add one extra filter to remove mercury and another guy. I have been so happy with it. It uses gravity instead of some plugged in filter system. My piss look noticeably different. They put the scientific tests on the site. It’s incredible. I bought it on Memorial Day for 30% off. Never been happier. My piss looks amazing. I got the big Berkey filter. The water tastes so good. Like Fiji water

I have 8 55 gallon drums about 6' high. I catch rain water off of my shop. I put an outdoor sink under them. I use the rainwater to water my 7 - 12 X 4 raised beds. I have a 6 week patriots food supply. I have a dehydrator and an All AMerican canner. Next on the list is the Big Berky water filter.

I wish I had a freeze dry machine but they are very expensive. Several people have told me that it’s worth buying at the sale prices from these companies bc it would cost as much buying it yourself with today’s prices. Not to mention the time consuming process of making it a powder form.
The freeze dryer seems easy but expensive. You don’t have to make the food into a powder. You put it in the freezer after cooking then bag it . The freeze dryer takes a long time but it’s doing all the work.
A prepping board would be good.

That’s cheap, but the thing is, if you buy bottled water it pays for itself. It will last 10 years

Buy a bunch of canned foods that you and yours will eat, (look at the dates, it will go way beyond that) Get food grade buckets and store beans, rice, flower, sugar etc. Soup is a dang good thing! Do it now!!. If you do not like this suggestion give your money to someone offering kits, (Which is not all bad) but buy what you like to eat! We Got This!
BTW store it in a dark cool spot as you can!

This is a family from South Mississippi who have an awesome YouTube channel. She has the best vids for canning meats and pretty much anything you want.
They have a lot of kids. He works full time and she home schools while also maintaining a self sufficient homestead.
I learn a lot from them but they make me realize how far behind I am. Better late than never I guess.

Thanks I’ve been subscribed for years. I’ve been enjoying his weekly prepper school videos. His last one was on night vision. He covers all facets of prepping in great detail and does great reviews too. I’ve made several purchases based on his videos.
If a soccer board is allowed, surely we can get a prepper type board.

Bought a 2 week supply from my patriot supply
Read up on the directions and you’d need like 10 gallons of water just for that alone
Bought a box of MRE’s from Amazon also
Been buying the 2.5 gallon Ozarka water jugs with the tap in them.. have them in the closet for emergency

that guy is an expert farmer. people don't give farmers half the credit for intellect they deserve.

Are there better or cheaper options out there?
canned food is ALWAYS where you should start if you're starting out. especially now with freeze dried becoming outrageously expensive. you store a can in decent temps and keep can integrity in place it'll last just as long as freeze dried.
sure. there are definite pros to freeze dried. lighter. generally more healthy with less sodium. but cost/calorie is going to lose to canned goods everytime.
I have some from nearly all suppliers. mountain house has generally been my favorite. they are one of the few that doesn't typically put "protein substitute" in their meals. if I had to do freeze dried and I was doing "meals" I'd recommend them, but you'll find some good meals and better values on certain things from all of them. Augason farms and nutristore are great for the "side items." things like cheese. onions. butter. stuff like that. I also like nutristore for the #10 cans of meat. pulled pork, ground beef, chicken breast. but they're like 70 bucks a piece now. Wise company/ready wise is the one I'd say I'd steer clear of. their cost/servings/calories clearly seem to be the worst.
for specific recommendations.. the peak (re)fuel breakfast skillet is on point. and you southern baws may like the backpackers pantry red beans and rice. I mean it's not red beans and rice. but it's as close as you can expect out of a pouch. I'll eat em once in awhile if I just need a quick meal/snack and can't get wife to make me a sammich.

Try this: Justwater.Me
The main thing you want is a good filter to filter out the bacteria, protozoa, giardia, virus'...
Look at the micron rating, you want a ceramic filter with at least a .02 micron rating.
BTW, stay away from the big-box commercial water filters and go with quality.
Bad drinking water is not something to take a chance on. Millions world-wide die every year from drinking bad water. Many more suffering life-long maladies due to bad water.
I think this is the best water filtration system out there minus reverse-osmosis:
DoultonUSA
Other great water filtration products are Sawyer and Katadyn.
But these are geared more toward hikers, campers.
Liquid bleach, unscented, is good for short-term but it starts to degrade after about 6 months.
Get a few pounds of pool shock, aka calcium hypochlorite. It will be a better alternative to liquid bleach to kill a lot of the nasty's in drinking water.
