So in 2021 approx 45k people died from gun violence. The same year approx 108k people died of ODs. 80k of which were from Fentanyl. Yet our liberal overloads want to attack gun owners and companies. Instead of going after Chyna, drug cartels and open boarder policies. Not to mention states like Oregon basically legalizing almost all drugs. BTW that was a record for gun deaths.

Even so the war on drugs doesn't work you can't change human nature if a person wants something badly enough they will find a way to get it. At the end of the day drugs like marijuana and other drugs that offer medical benefits should be legalized and not prosecuted as for other drugs like fentanyl the best way to prevent fentanyl getting on the streets is declare war on the cartels, secure the border, and imprison people who sell it to individuals, for everything else you just need to let social Darwinism take place.

Trafficking drugs across our border illegally is not. Nearly all of this Fentanyl killing people doesn't come from our country.

The prohibition on drugs is the reason drugs are deadly. There'd be far fewer deaths associated with drug use IF they were legal and regulated. If you prohibited guns the issue would be the same...no regulation, just anybody with a moderate machine shop and some fundamental knowledge could build a weapon and it may work and it might blow up in your hands. Plus the caveat of having to deal with a criminal to procure said gun.

Alcohol was DEADLY during prohibition. Folks distilled liqour in all kinds of ways and added all sorts of stuff to it and it was distributed and controlled by criminals...just a bad situation all the way around. Fast forward to legal liqour and almost no one dies from drinking (accidents yes, very few die from bad liqour (many drink themselves to death) and no adult has to deal with criminals and be a criminal themselves to enjoy a drink. Even rotgut is better quality than 90% of moonshine was and is waaaaaaayyyyyy less expensive because it is legal. The continued prohibition of drugs not only leads to misery for everyone it is downright dangerous....but its a growth industry and unlikely to go away anytime soon.

I can think of only 2 things adults should not be able to procur legally...child porn and murder for hire. Drugs, gambling, prostitution, loan sharking...it all ought to be legal, regulated and out in the open. Making things illegal creates criminals and that is an idiotic thing for a society to inflict upon itself....

Of those 80k, I’d be willing to bet 70k were fentanyl poisoning, meaning they were not intentionally ingesting fentanyl. The drug pushers use it to cut everything from adderall to heroin.

Legalization would cut down on the number of ODs

Come on, it's not like any of those shootings were related to the drug trade or anything.

Here's a question I have...how many of those 45k gun deaths are directly related to drug violence or robberies, etc due to drug use? Seems an important number if one is to truly compare the deaths.

2/3 of all gun deaths are suicides. Is that 45K from gun "violence", or just gun deaths, which include 66% suicides? Suicides, while tragic, are not my problem.

You can't use drugs to protect you from tyranny. Do you actually think the government cares about protecting it's citizens.

gun violence

Stop using this term. At its root it is a lie and deceptive. people died, gun was used.

Suicide is not violent the vast majority of the time and that makes up most of the numbers. Some of the numbers were accidental deaths. The remainder were criminal acts.

Most of the criminal acts involved drug sales or drug use.

Washington State is like Oregon. Less than a gram of meth, coke etc is no issue. Not sure if that is the whole state but small amounts are legal in King County (Seattle).

In 2020, 54% of the gun deaths were suicides. I imagine it is about the same every year. 43% were murders.

Why can't both be tackled?

Where does it say that gun violence AND people dying of overdoes can't both be tackled?
