Greg Abbott threatens Texas A&M president’s job over claim that university broke DEI ban

Gov. Greg Abbott threatened Texas A&M University President Mark Welsh III’s job over claims the university broke the state’s ban on diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
The threat came after conservative activist Christopher Rufo shared a university email inviting some staffers and PhD students to attend a conference that limited participation to people who are Black, Hispanic or Native American.
On Monday, someone asked Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton on social media whether they were going to tolerate the behavior.
“Hell, no,” Abbott replied hours later on X, formerly known as Twitter. “It’s against Texas law and violates the U.S. Constitution. It will be fixed immediately or the president will soon be gone.”

It's beautiful that someone can make a post on X, tag the governor of a state and he responds immediately. That system has not existed anywhere in the history of the world.

how about he makes sure my power stays on next week before getting in a tiff with university presidents

Welsh caught the wrong end of the steer here, but once an Aggie always an Aggie. Unfortunately, it looks as if his name was at the top of the letterhead and he shut it down with the quickness once made known.
If you read the article, it’s actually quite assuring that DEI and other “woke” progressive nonsense is going up in flames across the country.

Since the state’s DEI ban was passed, Texas public universities have been criticized by state officials for not doing enough to comply with the law and by faculty and students who say school officials are over-enforcing it. Failure to comply could mean less state funding for public universities.
University presidents nationwide have been dealing in the past few years with increased political pressures on top of the COVID-19 pandemic, a projected decline in college-bound students and budget deficits. In a recent survey of university presidents across the country, more than half said they plan to step down in the next five years.

How about you wait for something to happen before you bitch about it and, even then, bitch about the correct entities?

Getting a PhD destroys the minds of otherwise regular people.

Affirmative action has been national policy for decades, it started in the aftermath of WW2

Did you lose power last week?
Have they preemptively cut your power before it gets cold this weekend?
Don’t borrow trouble from tomorrow and certainly don’t bitch about things that haven’t even happened yet.

So will sponsoring students searching for jobs to conferences such as NSBE, SHPE now be banned for public Texas Universities.
I am against the perversion that has happened with DEI at these institutions as much as anyone, but there are some good aspects of things like those associations helping with networking and bridging gaps.
Again, idiots like Abbott are throwing the baby out with the bath water just to win political points. It is not about making things better for their constituents.
So seeing him grandstand and threaten people on Twitter should not be lauded.

If those conferences discriminate against attendees of specific skin colors, then they should be.
