BTW, tell the members of the Coast Guard who will miss their checks to go find another profession.

BTW, my father and my uncle are career Coast Guard: Semper Paratus (Always ready).

You should learn to be respectful.

Way to rebuild the military....

There are plenty of programs to help the military families through this. I made sure all my soldiers were aware of them when we went through this in 2013.

I’m sorry .. but if someone can’t miss ONE check without financial distress... I don’t care who you are... it’s time for a re-evaluation of your finances.

You’re missing my point. Yes, there are some irresponsible essential employees working for deferred pay that live check to check. They should have planned better.

My issue is that, since I’m getting paid eventually, many here and elsewhere think that I shouldn’t complain about missing a check. When I get upset about missing a check, it’s not because I’m in financial hardship. It’s because I shouldn’t have to miss a check.

Im furloughed and I won’t get back pay. I am a contractor, the folks who actually do the work, on a GOV site. I can’t imagine that aren’t a helluva lot more of us than actual GOV employees...and none of us get back pay. I got called back to work this week at another site, and I’ve been doing work for my last engineering firm, so I’m at least busy. My wife’s a contractor too, so we’re a double no back pay family. She’s an HR director, so she’s been working a good bit behind the scene.

Everyone loves to minimize the impacts of it suits their political needs.

I wonder why a gigantic company that has millions in government contracts and spends millions on lobbying to stifle competition would want to have a large office in DC...

I didn't see you thanking Obama for bailing out the American auto industry and saving thousands of jobs.

You are a typical . stupid Liberal.

Detroit should have never been bailed out , just like Wall Street shouldn't have been bailed out.

But , thanks for answering my question.

You didn't whine because you didn't have empathy for coal miners.

Yet , you say we have no empathy for the government workers.

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

People like you are the reason Liberals are mocked and laughed at.

The impact on Federal Workers is NEVER a justification for spending.

While I sympathize for individuals whose personal life will be effected, government needs to be willing to make tough decisions just like any private company.

If the government is shut down, it is what it is. Clearly, it's shut down for a reason. And, clearly it's shut down for a good reason (otherwise it wouldn't be shut down). Those reasons don't go away simply because workers will be negatively affected.

Futhermore, it kind of pisses me off that the concern for the workers is the primary concern. What about the impact to citizens. And, if the argument is that citizens aren't really that negatively affected, then this is money we should not be spending.

30 years of FAA air traffic control here. We just safely moved a record number of passengers for both the Thanksgiving holiday as well as the Christmas holiday season. The only thanks for that I require is a paycheck. How would you feel about flying on an airline today that was late with payroll? This isn’t Venezuela folks. Good people are busting their arse for you, the American people. All they’re asking for is a paycheck in a timely manner.
I teach my trainees to block out the outside world as soon as the door closes behind them when they get to work. We need 100% focus. Hard for them to do when they’re worried about paying bills. Hard for a young employee to have the six months pay set aside when they only have a few years on the job.

Honest hard working people are being affected by this, and are hurting. And there's the collateral damage of this, read about people like cab drivers in areas like DC who are taking a huge hit because of this. Politics aside, this is affecting a lot of peoples lives, not just the lazy pencil pushers you people seem to loath.

But the stance with a mojority of people here is "walk it off".

I got a few self employed folks you need to speak with who barely survived from 2008-2016 you need to try and hand that tear stained handkerchief too.

You think the public sector is full of rose smelling farts? Everyone is dining on steak every night while laughing at Fed gov workers?

False. Others, including NY offered much more.

I'm not surprised you lie to try to make your point.
