We all know what's going on. You are trying to characterize it to shape your view.

Trump requested funding for wall. Pelosi and Schumer said no. Trump told them this was non negotiable. Schumer tried to pin a shutdown on Trump and Trump basically said, "that's fine, I'll take the blame because this is so important."

None of that matters. Trump is requesting a very, very reasonable amount of money for this year. Democrats are refusing to give it to him. Those are the facts. And, reasonable people evaluate situations based on facts. Democrats are playing hardball and hurting people for political reasons.

Who cares? The Democrats are to blame. You think Trump saying he won't blame them changes that?

We have an account that our bills come out of, and it’s got enough in it to cover us for a while. We’re both working, but I think I only have 3/5 work days with funding. Like most jobs though, I can pick up other work if I poke my neck into the right spots.

The Dems aren’t caving...their whole point is to stop Trump from being effective, this shite is exactly what they want.

So do you think Trump should have taken that $25b in exchange for DACA back when the dems offered it?

It's not important.

What's important is that the democrats are playing politics at the expense of a lot of people. And, they are choosing to do it on a subject that is important, and to deny a very reasonable Trump request.

People see that his request is important. People see that his request is reasonable. People see that democrats are playing politics.

I agree.

Eliminate their positions. Period.
If the only people who can tell they are not at "work" are those people, and the only way they can tell is because they aren't getting a check, maybe their positions are not needed.
To maintain those positions seems kind of stupid.
Don't you agree? If not, why not?

Suddenly being w/o a paycheck would be unsettling for most folks. People at the TSA level aren't drawing big money in the first place. Should they live paycheck-to-paycheck? Of course not.
I don't understand the angst by the government workers not getting paid on their normal pay schedule.

It's already been announced they will receive full back pay once congress finally passes the budget.

So, just live off a credit card if they don't have savings in the bank to use.

When they receive their back pay they can use it to pay their temporary credit card borrowings or replenish their savings account.

They should consider this time off as an additional paid vacation this year. I'd be grateful rather than protesting.....

NASA is not "shut down". That said, what important daily function do they provide? Did they turn off all the satellites and sensors?

What do I mean? You answered the question.

If there is a functioning "skeleton crew"....they are not "shut down" Don't you agree?

And unpaid workers, remember to always worship Trump, even if you and your children incur huge late fees in all of your bills, or lose your home, or default on your obligations because Trump is who you should love, always, regardless of reality.

I'd be deducting those fees from my taxes

Air traffic controller for the FAA. Not a lot in the private sector for me, although the shutdown is a big argument in favor of privatization.

This facility is a NASA building, but everyone here is working projects that receive funding from a different source, most are not GOV, they’ve just contracted to use the space. All GOV projects, that need oversight are shut down.

Can’t even get into my normal site, it is shut down.

Let's take it a step further. For every day that the government is shut down, congress should lose one months pay. Maybe these frickers would then actually do their damn jobs they were elected to/for, and have the budget ready and approved before the deadline each year.

You're making my point.
If it's functioning with no GOV employees....maybe they're not needed?
Again...you're conflating eliminating nonessential employees with eliminating whole departments...i.,e. "You want to eliminate NASA?"
