Trump almost redrew the map. Do you think, perhaps if he continues striking a more moderate tone, the map shifts back to status quo in 2020?

he question now becomes can the Republicans shift all of those non-Handel voters to Handel and maintain the same level of turnout?

Can the Democrats maintain the enthusiasm until June 20? A party that historically does not show up for non-presidential elections consistently.

Turnout for GOP will be higher in a run off.

All Handel has to do now is pound home that Ossoff doesn't even live in the district that he wants to represent!!

after this race is over they need to make a state law saying that you must live in the district to represent it

Ossoff's going to sink now. The Democrats threw out everything they had to avoid the runoff. It's going to end up being that Ossoff spent roughly $68 per vote. CNN is trying to push it as a win for Ossoff, but it's a real loss.

Its amusing how people choose the narratives they choose.

The other side is that the Republicans just spent millions in what was a safe district just to force a run off.

Now all of the sudden its smooth sailing?

I wouldn't be so sure.

Numbers are on the Republicans side in this district but you have to get them to show up....

Now the race becomes about continuing attacks on Ossoff that so far haven't done much and simultaneously having to build up support for Handel. Who by the accounts I have read, and her track record, says she is a pretty weak candidate. Losing her last two elections and clearly not being able to break away from the pack much today.

Can't add additional state requirements for federal offices.

So, with what is out, Ossof might end up getting less than 47% tonight, which isn't a complete polling miss, tbh.

The question is whether he can muster enough additional support to get an additional 2.5-3%.

The US Constitution says a US Rep must live in the STATE of his district not in his district. In Metro ATL very few care about this.

Ossoff exceeded expectations since polls had him at anywhere from 38% to 45%. And that's with millions of dollars of out-of-GA $$$ spent attacking him every hour on ATL TV and radio.

Karen Handle is very well known, but that is not
necessarily a good thing among Repubs. She is very controversial and has been ethically-challenged in her political past. She is a great example of "good-ole-boy" crooked Georgia politics. It is unlikely she will be enthusiastically supported by her closest Repub contenders. She simply is not well-liked.

Cohn did some napkin math and thinks 47.7% will be roughly the final tally with what areas are still missing.

I would just say that what you said also assumes that Handel can muster the ability to deliver the same number of Republicans to turn out for her that did in totality tonight.

Can Handel get another 50,000 people to show up to vote for her specifically? IDK.

Ossoff I think has to worry about keeping his side motivated. Which I don't necessarily trust Democrats to ever be. Would not necessarily shock me if Ossoff only gets 65,000 votes and Handel wins with 68,000 or something.

Dave Wasserman?Verified account @Redistrict

Story of #GA06: Ossoff (D) won 77% of mail ballots & 62% of in-person absentees.

But 3/4 of votes were cast on EDay & GOP won 58% of them.

Democrats need to realize that this strategy of cannibalizing their efforts on early voting doens't pay off much.

That may be so but GOP needs to do a better job at early voting.

Early voting helped Osoff maintain a solid majority lead for a couple hours tonight and the GOP barely scraped by on election day.

Oh and running 11 candidates against one democrat frontrunner was beyond stupid. They were lucky to force a runoff.

To an extent I think this was to curb or mollify attempts at personally directed redistricting.

Fair question given her performance in the state in the past and the disparity in attack ads both candidates have recently faced (something that will not be true in the near future).
