Think Scott Brown for a parallel.

Scott Brown won a senate seat in a state that just went 30 points for obama.

Tonight's result is right in line with the trump/hillary margin here in this district.

Research shows that open seat elections mirror the presidential results, not the previous house race results.

Which could be taken several ways.

One of which is that this is a seat that is going to remain competitive under the Trump era. Since while the shift when weighing it with the presidential election is not much, it did shift slightly in the Democrats favor.

Which means Tom Price's once 20% margin of victory seat is now within the MOE.

Ossoff: 88,562 votes
Top five Republicans: 88,562 votes

Man the next 2 months will be brutal.

The GOP has been losing its grip on sunbelt suburbs for a few cycles now. Trump accelerated that trend.

In a episode of political irony: the suburbs, which ended the democrats "solid south" monopoly, is going to give it back to them slowly but surely. It's already happening in texas and georgia.

We lost a lot of traditionally Republican precincts in Texas this election. It didn't start with Trump, but may have accelerated. The newer, outer suburbs are still red, but older burbs have been trending blue.

Based on what he also just said, the numbers should shift up ever so slightly in the R corner.

The question now becomes can the Republicans shift all of those non-Handel voters to Handel and maintain the same level of turnout?

Can the Democrats maintain the enthusiasm until June 20? A party that historically does not show up for non-presidential elections consistently.

Either way, the DNC, Ossoff, and the Republican party are probably going to be looking at dropping millions more combined into this fight.

Enthusiasm may be even greater now imo. If this was a normal race, then the R would win. This race will be so hyped up in the media that it will be impossible to ignore. Big money will also start to pour in. The R will be the slight favorite, but he may be able to pick off a few voters depending on what kind of ads we get.

The runoff is June 20th?

Good luck to a liberal Democrat trying to win an election in Atlanta the day after Juneteenth.
