'Marriage' is NOT an inherently Biblical or even religious concept.

I disagree. It is inherently Biblical in the sense that God, who created everything including mankind, and instituted marriage in creating one male and one female and joining them together for the purposes of procreating and multiplying the face of the Earth with people. But, as I mentioned, if you don't believe the Bible is the inspired word of God then it would make sense you would define marriage in some extra-Biblical way.

Abraham had a couple of wives and a concubine. That's a hell of a lot of work.

Same sex marriage should not be recognized by the state. To be fair, I do not think any marriages or civil unions or anything else you want to call it should be recognized by the state, either.

Yep, lol. Great example also that just because we read something factual in the Bible like the polygamy of Abraham, David, Solomon, etc, doesn't mean it was approved of or acceptable to God. They paid for their actions dearly in their time on earth and generations to follow them.

Not believing government has the right to tell someone who they can marry =\= supporting gay marriage.

More republicans now hold a libertarian view on social issues like same sex marriage, sports gambling, marijuana, etc.

I don’t support gay marriage or think it’s right by MY beliefs, but is it the government’s job to mandate that?

It doesn’t matter whether I believe anything at all about the Bible or god. It remains that any discussion or consideration of any religion, at all, is not relevant to the question of marriage in a civil context.

We do not live in a theocracy.

This isn't really anything new. Gay marriage has been steadily gaining acceptance for more than a decade.

Oh, no doubt.

Ms Abraham#1: "Abraham, when are you going to patch that rent in the tent? You said you'd do it last Tuesday. It's Thursday.

Abraham: I get to it tomorrow. I busy with concubine.

Ms Abraham#1: Sarah, Abraham hasn't patched the tent yet."

Ms Abraham#2: AAAAbraham! A-braham! A-Bra-Ham!

Ok. Then on what basis should the government be able to restrict the ability of two consenting adults from entering into a contract?

They never did?

I'm for the government getting out of the sanctioning of marriage business all together.

The government never stopped gay people from marrying.

This is about making it the governments business

I do.

I believe that what is true and what is right is based on God's unchanging, objective moral law which is based on His character. I don't believe that what is right is based on public opinion.

Funny because I’ve never heard the term “civil marriage” until you threw up garbage in the post I’m responding too. If you mean “civil union”, then you are being incredibly dishonest just to try to make a point.
