Shameful.

quote:

Four Metro Council members, all African-American Democrats, will collectively abstain from voting to fill late Councilman Buddy Amoroso’s District 8 vacancy next week. Their decision was announced in a terse, two-sentence press release this afternoon.

That means the seven remaining members must vote unanimously to appoint Amoroso’s successor in a district that’s overwhelmingly Republican. If they fail to reach an agreement, state law dictates the decision then goes to Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat.

The four councilmembers—Chauna Banks, LaMont Cole, Erika Green and Donna Collins-Lewis—gave no reason for their decision, saying in the release, “We will make no further comment on this matter at this time.”

Leave it to Councilwoman Banks-Daniel to open her mouth behind the obvious motive...

quote:

While the four council members are refusing to discuss their decision, a tweet from Chauna Banks this morning indicated her preference. “Choosing a progressive Democrat to fill the vacant District 8 council seat would be a tremendous blow to the St. George effort!” the councilwoman said on her Twitter account.

And to think some people here got upset because SG leaders called out the SG opposition???

How much more evidence that these people want power?

This is near insanity level.

Yes, Amoroso was a conservative, but he was incredibly respectful of other viewpoints to the point where he'd seek them out to gather the full information on an issue.

Now these four want to use his death as a political maneuver to get the council to 6-6 even for a short period of time.

I hope Tara Wicker stands by what she has said about Buddy after his passing and votes in favor of the Amoroso family's suggested replacement.

Way to take a man's tragic death and turn it into a political game. Hopefully the other members will still be able to appoint a replacement and leave these four with egg on their face. It will come down to Tara Wicker and the spineless Barbara Freiberg.

I have more faith in Wicker to do the right thing than Freiberg.

If her constituents don't run Freiberg's arse out of office next election, they deserve whatever shite comes their way. She is a spineless sack of shite.

Doing things like this is how you turn people who weren’t concerned about St. George into St. George supporters. Democrats never learn.
