TigerCruise, you need to read the book, Ordinary Men. It's a short distance from life in your living room to being a brownshirt.

People assume that if they were a German citizen in the 30's and 40's that they would have been more like Schindler and less like a member of a death squad.

Statistically, that's just not true.

I'm not going to put my wife on the front of the car like a hood ornament just so we both can go to the store while maintaining a six foot distance between us.

Well, under what conditions WOULD you do it? Asking for a friend.

Oh, and “rules”.

I still don't believe that your typical uniformed police officers would follow gun confiscation orders. You need to come up with brown shirts or the gestapo to get that done.

It will vary all over the country, but on average your typical cop will and the ones who stand with citizens will be the exception, not the rule. Who do you think enforces magazine restrictions and current gun laws in the nazi states? They're not about to give up their pension for you.

I also suspect there will be a distinct difference between sheriffs/deputies and municipal/state cops.

They better start arresting people for sleeping with their spouse. I mean if you live with that person and are at the park with them BUT far away enough from others, who the f cares?

I mean if cops are doing as instructed maybe ok? But if that's the case then whomever instructed them is dumb. Sorry.

This whole thing is dumb.

Exactly. The number of people falling over themselves to report their neighbors who are *GASP* outside rather than cowering in fear in their basements is proof of that. Police departments are reporting their phone lines being inundated with call from snitches.

In fact, this very case of the father/daughter being accosted by jackboots was precipitated by such a call.

LA Mayor Garcetti is on record saying "snitches get PAID". It doesn't take much imagination to see what will happen when people are incentivized to report on you for owning a gun, being a Christian, or even expressing an unpopular opinion.

this ex cop is an American hero

from article in OP:

quote:

Mooney said he told officers that he was familiar with the posted rules and believed he and his family were in compliance and practicing proper social distancing. He said he refused to provide his identification when officers asked for it because he had not broken any law.

"Well, they didn't like that idea. They then proceeded to make a threat against me saying, 'If you don't give us your identification, if you don't identify yourself, we're going to put you in handcuffs in front of your 6-year-old daughter.'"

quote:

In a statement, the Brighton Police Department said it was "deeply sorry" for the incident and is conducting an internal investigation.

quote:

Mooney, who said he's hired an attorney and is considering legal action against the city, declined to comment on the apology.

The former state patrol trooper, who now runs a construction company, said officers eventually let him go without issuing a citation.

quote:

"She's learned that our constitutional rights are something worth standing up for," Mooney said. "She got to witness a violation of civil rights. She got to witness an unlawful order by the police."

In addition, Mooney said none of the officers were wearing protective gear, although he saw a face mask hanging from an officer's belt.

"They could very simply be asymptomatic, not even know they're sick, and now I've been exposed. My daughter's been exposed; my wife's been exposed," said Mooney.

This guy is obviously white. A black guy saying this would be dead or close to it.

Good, more power to the cop, seems like a good guy, but this kind of stuff doesn't stop when police are routinely allowed to get away with items.

So, he was social distancing and then the police..instead of telling him to head on back home that the park was closed..

But according to the sign, it wasn’t closed.
