Never hear it called that up nort' here.

My maternal grandfather, who was told stories by his grandfather, a captain in some division of the Alabama Cavalry, always called it "The War Between the States". If it was good enough for him, it's good enough for me.

7 states seceded before Lincoln ever took office. The war was essentially inevitable. Saying Lincoln "started" the war simply isn't reality.

Why? Explain why those states didn't have the right to do that and Lincoln by himself without congress had the constitutional authority to stop it.

What do you mean by "right"? Legal right? The Constitution, which the states ratified and agreed to uphold, provides no process for a state to secede. None. Was never really considered in the Federalist papers either.

Show me where the constitution expressly prohibited it though. I’ll wait.

Regardless of what may be in the hearts of some Christians, the actions, particularly when it comes to enabling mass murder and incarceration of good people without first giving peaceful attempts the utmost priority are what should determine true Christianity.

For better or worse, that particular interpretation of the 10th was settled on the field. I've yet to read any compelling apologetic for the perpetual republic with no exceptions.

He didn't kill them and the decisions that he had to make which led to their demise were obviously done with the most severe distaste. No one likes war, esp a Christian. This is the sacrifice of leadership though.

You engage in demon-speak. What a truly evil point of view.

With leadership comes great responsibility to anticipate likely consequences.

You should cease enabling false idols.

It wouldn't have made any difference. Lincoln had no intentions of ever letting a single state leave the union no matter if they were in the right or wrong.

I wondered about that. Obviously, there are a lot of drive-by posters that come around here, especially during times of intense political happenings. Is it because TD is fairly large and mostly unmoderated? Are there AI programs deployed to test and learn? Are there shills (maybe coinciding with AI)? I have no fricking clue but it's pretty wild to view from the outside...or maybe we are all just incorrigible redneck nerds.

What led to those events?

What caused the south to do so?

Lincoln ordered the federal garrison at Ft. Sumpter not to turn over control of the fort to the South Carolina militia and instead ordered the fort be resupplied.

This was done because the federal government was dependent upon tariff revenues collected from the port of Charleston, which Ft. Sumpter controlled. Without state control of Ft. Sumpter, an independent South Carolina could not act independently or trade freely.

In most other places across the South, the Union officers who were from the North respectfully handed control of military installations over to officers of state militias. At West Point, southern cadets and officers were permitted to board trains and return to their home states.

Lincoln was the one who acted to stop this process of a peaceful transition of power in the South and a respectful partition of the nation…because he was a sith lord playing both sides of the conflict in order to transform the American continent into an empire with a centralized government and an absolutist ruler. Got to keep the Gaucho vibes going
