The problem is that now you expect those things. What if it were never in your consideration in the first place?

Positing that invalidates your whole question, because then we would know no difference.

Now the obvious answer is I wouldn't know any better.

Is it to make a choice like in the Matrix where I give it up willingly and never know again? Ok I guess.

Has there ever been a time when it is more enticing to go off the grid?

I plan to return to the NW, likely ID/WY/MT area or secondary option of CO or AZ when I retire. I could easily see myself without the internet.

We could "escape" it all back then and plenty of us did. The internet and smart phones, however, appear to be a tool for us to use to lift the veil on stuff we were ignorant of. So, NO to going back. The future is bright.

Yes. Without a second thought. I’d ditch cable and satellite too.

Good call. Back to one phone in the kitchen with a screeched out cord.

Like others have said. If we could remove social media/opinions/politics from the internet that would be amazing. The pros of the internet out way the cons though.

I would go back because it was simpler. I am partial to:

Tecmo Bowl.
Seeing people's faces, not the top of their head.
Sportscenter, sans who tweeted what today.
Having less stuff in my pockets.

But I am just starting to get to know some of you. Bummer.

Sure

According to Democrats, all I did was white supremacy stuff and lynched people 6 days a week.

Now, I never done did that stuff- but I would happily go drive classic cars that were easier to find back in 1985.

I agree. Social media is fanning the flames today.

For research, reservations - it' great.

The 20th century version of researching no further than the Wikipedia entry ... and a wiki entry that is ten or more years outdated, at that.
