Football players suspended from team for carrying Thin Blue, Thin Red lines flags at game
by DAVID WINTER | WKRC Staff
MORROW, Ohio (WKRC) — Some local high school football players are finding that their support for first responders is coming at a huge cost.
The boys are now suspended from their team after not heeding a warning to leave the Thin Blue Line and Thin Red Line flags that represent fallen firefighters and police officers off the field.
quote:
“Were you trying to make some kind of a political statement here?” Local 12 asked Brady Williams, a senior cornerback.
“No,” he answered quickly. “Not at all. I was just doing it to honor the people that lost their lives 19 years ago.“
quote:
Jarad Bentley carried the Thin Red Line flag.
“I was all for it,” he said. “Because my dad is a firefighter, and if it had been him killed on 9/11, I would have wanted someone to do it for him.”
quote:
“We did not want to place ourselves in a circumstance where another family might want a different flag to come out of the tunnel, one that may be [one that] many other families may not agree with from a political perspective,” Power explained.

Part of me sees the principal's point about not letting another kid carry another flag. I guess he means a flag for KKK, BLM or Isis. I worked for a paper that had restrictions for what churches could run. They were not allowed to put any inspirational messages in their ads, just their address and service hours. The idea was that we'd have to let satanic churches run their message too.
It's just sad that the media has put a loud minority in the forefront, and allowed them to put administrators in the position to have to think this way. The way corporations have given in to these groups' desires is really sad too.
ETA: I changed up my comment at the bottom because some people didn't realize the "KKK, BLM or Isis" flag comment was my interpretation of what the principal meant.

This is where we are..
Carrying a flag supporting fallen police officers and firefighters (on the anniversary of 9/11 no less), is considered equally offensive to some as a flag supporting KKK, BLM, or ISIS

I would say “they” have succeeded in painting our police officers in a negative light.

Not what was said.
They were concerned that if you did this, people would want to bring other flags which many might find offensive onto the field.

What's really sad is that students who weren't even alive on 9/11/01 had to think of a way to honor the fallen first responders. Jackass administrators should have thought of a way to honor them.

I'd tell the principal that policemen and firefighters are public servants. If they can serve us in protecting our way of life we sure as hell can honor them for that. BLM is a political cause that doesn't serve the public at all.

Carrying a flag honoring 9/11 first responders who lost their lives is akin to flying a KKK Flag?
Good Lord!

I wanted to read that as WKRP.

If they simply burned a U.S. flag, it would all be good.

JFC, just go ahead and piss those admins off. Force them to suspend you for supporting police and fire. People these days....
"Never forget" (?)
Those administrators were alive on 9/11, the kids weren't. Who is showing the better judgement here? This is very pathetic.

I can understand why the principal wants the team to all dress alike and wear the same uniforms and for prohibiting them from doing things as individuals and not as a team. If you relax the rules to promote one cause no matter how noble then you open the door for idiots to promote a cause that isn’t acceptable.

1) Sow division between the community and LEOs.
2) Call for defunding of LEOs.
3) Let that division erupt into hatred, violence, murder and assassination.
4) Elect Biden to "fix" things.
5) Biden "takes charge", claiming that the rift between community and police is too great and violent, and that "outside help" is needed to restore order.
6) Hello Blue Helmets on American soil.
7) Goodbye America.

If every fan/player’s parent isn’t waving a a TBL/TRL flag at next weeks game, that city should be scrapped. (Assuming they’re even allowing fans to attend.)

The kids were asked not to carry any flags with political meaning, and they did it any way. Isnt this what we are asking of the NFL and CFB? I understand the schools position.
I'm also proud of that kid for honoring his father, even though he knew he'd be suspended.
There are no "bad guys" here.

Supporting cops and firefighters isn't political.

This all or nothing mentality is part of the reason we are where we are today as a society...

Showing respect for cops and firemen is now considered political? God, I hope the kids don't run out on the field carrying a banner honoring their moms and dads if that is the case. All hell would break loose.

It's not to me either, but let's not pretend they were punished for their political opinions either. They were told not to go there, and they went there.
Good on the kid for making a stand. I'm sure his old man is proud.

It’s a shame that honoring the 9/11 fallen first responders is considered political instead of patriotic. I guess “Never Forget” means “Never Forget unless it offends a minority opinion”
