DeSantis playing politics

This is true BUT so is Disney - they shouldn’t have a say in what is taught in Florida schools (which they don’t really but they were stirring up shite), they shouldn’t go against Florida state law and require the Covid vaccination for their employees, and Florida has a lot more going for it besides Disney

who started the headlines?

the people that labeled a bill "don't say gay?" or the corporation that decided to make a press release about a bill that says "don't address gender identities or sexual preference for kids younger than 9?"

I'm going to point out two uncomfortable facts for the people of this thread:

1) Disney owns ESPN.
2) If you have a retirement account or investment portfolio that includes a major S&P 500 index, you own a small part of Disney.

Carry on.

You think you're breaking some sort of news here?

Look, I think Disney sucks, but if you are going to talk about the amount of money Disney saves from this then they should also talk about how valuable Disney is to the state of Florida.

What if Disney up and announces they purchased a huge amount of land in South Carolina and will be building a brand new park and closing the one in Florida?

On top of that they don't sell the land preventing anyone else from establishing something else there.

A lot of businesses will follow Disney because that's where the people would be.

Florida needs Disney more than Disney needs Florida. Let's just call this what it is, DeSantis playing politics. Doing shite that will be popular with the base he will need support from on a nationwide scale. Its the things you do if you want to have a chance to represent your party as the presidential candidate.

This is probably more about making headlines than anything.

I swear you have a template/script you follow on every single one of these issues.

You are literally too dumb to insult.

But that won’t stop me from doing so.

Just pointing out that many folks celebrating this political touchdown are contributing to Disney's profits and/or profiting from Disney. The first thing is hypocritical. The second is masochistic.

I would agree with you if they weren’t registering Republican when they get there at a rate never before seen.

I hope that's right, I just can't wrap my head around a state full of transplants that has traditionally moved with the breeze digging in for the long haul. We'll see.

I wholeheartedly agree that Disney should pay their fair share, but this is going to have an unintended, detrimental effect on the consumer(s). With Disney incurring more costs, what do you think will happen?

Costs will either A) get passed down to the consumer which means higher cost of souvenirs, concessions, tickets, etc. (guess this means Genie+ is staying and probably will be more expensive) or B) more staffing shortages and less investment in the parks which also means less "magic" and "fun" for visitors or C) all of the above

Then consumers will eventually stop going and either 1) Disney will tone down the pedophilia support, a win for the good guys, or 2) Disney will implode and be replaced by something not pedophile supportive, a win for the good guys.

This is one of those things that sounds like a huge win now, and could have devastating effects for the actual residents of Florida down the road

You are stating opinion as fact. I could speculate the exact same outcome if the state did nothing

Again. No way to know what would have happened. Maybe it would be worse. Maybe better. One thing is certain, the state and its residents are keenly aware of how much money Disney ISNT paying. So I’m sure they’ll be OK if Disney folds their tent. Which they won’t, cause they can’t without ridiculous expense to their bottom line .

While you definitely have a valid point, the difference now is that the Orlando area has a lot more attractions than just Disney and Disney World is so large now its by no means going anywhere.

Disney can certainly change some things, but nothing is going to happen quickly.

I also don't think this is going to have any sort of major effect. My guess is they have a back channel meeting and agree on something that is a win for both sides.

Yet they are still able to operate. You think Disney is going to move?

Pretty much every state offers big corps tax breaks to locate operations in their state. It makes good business sense.

If Florida offers other businesses tax breaks, this could get interesting.

I suspect you are severely misreading (wishfully hoping?) where and how the backlash will occur here.

We shall see, I suppose.

I have a pretty strict ‘No Political Signs in my Yard’ rule. I might would break that rule for Ron Desantis. If he can win on this scale at the federal level we could get this country back on track.

Their fair share? How many billions has Disney brought to Florida? Florida politicians better be careful.
