While it makes sense I think the death penalty doesn't have the incentive effect that people think it does.
At some point, we need to recognize that sometimes justice means the death penalty.

I have said repeatedly that I think that the death penalty should be applied in very narrow circumstances for the most egregious of crimes ... I think that the rape of a small child, six or eight years old, is a heinous crime and if a state makes a decision that under narrow, limited, well-defined circumstances the death penalty is at least potentially applicable, that that does not violate our Constitution.

I love Ron.
But, gotta disagree.
It's easy for a guy to get unjustly convicted of pedo shite.
Could be a vindictive ex coaching the kid to say shite.
It's just issues waiting to happen.
FYI, frick pedos.
It's just the risk of unjust conviction too high.

I get what you're saying, but don't we already have that to some extent? Not public "executions", but people are shamed online and it isn't pretty. We already have modern versions of pillories and public hangings. And with "true crime" tales flourishing online, no I must disagree. Nothing good will come from public executions.
If anything, it might even have the opposite effect. Internet will generate more sympathy for the condemned.

I mean The history of public executions doesn’t support that.
If anything it desensitized a populace to death.

Florida To Begin Sentencing Pedophiles to Death
Is there a punishment law on the books which was not repealed after Kennedy v Louisiana and has just been sitting on the books but deemed unenforceable due to SCOTUS, or must the Florida legislature pass a new law to accomplish this end?
If the latter, is there any indication as to whether legislature would be willing to pass such a law … or is DeSantis just blowing smoke at this point? Big GOP majority in the House, but only eight seats in the Senate. Would there be any defections?
==========
Here is a much better article regarding this development.
First, he is only encouraging the legislature to pass a new statute. There is not currently one on the books.
Second, he is also proposing a change in the rules regarding imposition of the death penalty in all cases. In particular, once convicted unanimously, he is proposing that less than unanimous consent of the jury be required in order to impose the death penalty.

Good. Kill them all. No mercy.

I remember back in the 1990s Louisiana sentenced a man (Patrick Kennedy) to death for a violent rape of a four-year-old girl. The courts ruled his sentence as unconstitutional, even though the child required extensive surgery to save her life and who knows whatever sort of psychological intervention.

This is a smart political move - makes the left defend pedos

Maybe ask Jody Plauche if his life has been rewarding or meaningful. Hey I’d love to whack every pedo. But it’s just bad policy as it’s an incentive to murder after the rape. I’m as Old Testament as the rest of you guys, I just think the unintended consequences would be tragic.

Of course they are. Their goal is the make them a protected class, not to punish them.

I’m just curious as to why you’re against it? Personally, I think if someone premeditates a murder, which is generally what would prompt the death penalty, then they should expect to be on the hook for “equal”treatment as far as losing their life. Even so, the death penalty is most likely much more humane than how they dispatched their victim(s) plus they get to live a lot longer than their victim(s) did as the legal process plays out.
I’m against it as well
One reason, if a single innocent has ever been executed for crime they did not commit, it should be abolished.
I also think prison should be ‘hell on earth’.
