My 6 year old isn't insane, but he's been in the arse whipping range for a while now. My five year old acts a little insane sometimes, but a good butt whipping clears things up real quick.

I got beat on my hands in 1st grade one time for not doing my homework. I went home and complained to my mom that my teacher beat me. I thought my mom was going to march back into that school and show that teacher who's boss. Through wise interrogation from my mom I had to admit that the reason I got beat was because I didn't do my homework.

I used to get paddled all the time in school. I think my football coach enjoyed it. People are so soft today

I am much younger than corporal punishment being the norm. But When I was 7, I had to bring a handwritten from my mom giving permission to allow my teacher to whoop me if needed. She had the same teacher somehow and trusted her to keep me in line. I was scared to death and was by far the best, most well-behaved student in the classroom the whole year.

My female elementary librarian used to paddle us in a joking manner every time we had a birthday. 1 "swat", which were more like pats, for every year old you were and one to grow on.
Nowadays that event we used to all joke about and not one seemed scared from would be banned.
In HS we were given an option of OSS or a paddle session with our principal. His sexual escapades with underage students aside, it was from "inappropriate"

That ain’t shite.
12 years old. Hot dog day in the cafeteria. Lunch lady asks if I want a wiener. I say, “No thanks, I already have one.”
An hour later our 350 lb middle school football coach comes to VP’s office with his paddle and gives me 6 big smacks on the arse. Then I had to go to football practice and run the ENTIRE practice with a sore arse.
You can bet I was the most respectful SOB in that school for the next 3 years.

That first lick seemed a little rough for a 6-year-old, but I have no problem with paddling in general. The mom was there. Did she give permission or try to stop it?
I don't remember getting paddlings at that age, but I certainly did later. The choice was always, a lick or we call your parents. I took the lick, every time.
