Wish every state had a legislature as red and smart as Florida’s.

If something like this passes and other red states follow suit, you're literally going to have east and west Germany all over again.

Property taxes are the most immoral taxes of all because they prevent you from owning property.
If you were poor and unable to pay your property taxes, the state confiscates the property therefore, you never truly own it
DeSantis for president

I wish hot wheels here in Texas would follow the DeSantis playbook.

It's going to be interesting to see how the municipalities and schools cover their M&O budgets.
Property taxes would all shift to non-owner occupied residential, land, and commercial properties. So basically renters and businesses will be paying property taxes, and by businesses, we know this will be consumers through increased prices of whatever those businesses sell.
Sales taxes are not reliable sources of funding for governments. A recession could result in budget cuts because municipalities by law can't hoard cash - they have to use up the majority of their budgets each year. Those good school districts would lose their steady sources of funding.
Just some observations as we see the fight against ad valorem taxes.
Stay tuned.

Florida isn't just going to give up that tax money without taking it via some other manner.

If this works…holy shite!

Florida has imported so much wealth since Covid hit that outside of the poor counties in the rural areas they can afford to depending on how this is handled.

No, they can't. We can't even suspend our gas tax... let alone pay for new schools for all these carpetbaggers ron is importing.

Tourism brings a large portion of our tax revenue.
$3.8 billion tax surplus this year.

Modern day serfdom. Not sure how we ever allowed it to happen.

Its crazy looking back at how close Florida's 2018 election was and how the state could have taken a drastically different path back then. I think DeSantis is the best governor there's been in any state in my lifetime and its not even close.

You mean, you don't like all those dog parks and bike paths?

And yet our wealthiest county in
quote:already has an additional local sales tax, because they can't afford to build new schools. Don't worry, the impact fees in st johns county, on a 1801-2500 sq ft house are already 20k...but we can get them to 50k no problem, with this plan.

Oh, how's the next 2 years after that looking:
quote:
The LBC approved a budget document prepared by staffers and state economists that projects a surplus of $3.8 billion for the 2026-27 fiscal year, but a $1.5 billion and $6.6 billion in the following budget years. The estimates are based on spending trends over the last three years and projections of revenue in the upcoming years.
Weird to flex over a 4.3 billion dollar budget shortfall, because it looks good today

That close to having a closeted gay liberal meth head as governor. Glad Ron cleaned up the cheating in the southern counties.

We really need to stop telling the rest of you how awesome we are. I don't want any more of you assholes moving here.

Who would have guessed the cheating was that bad. You don’t go from one hanging chad to a solid red state in 20 years. Especially with liberal snowbirds moving there in hordes.
Imagine the cheating elsewhere. This country is a lot redder than people realize.
