Jeez, I hate this kind of disingenuous "gotcha" crap. Take it to Twitter, dipshit.

Sorry, you're a little slow and unable to keep up. That's your issue to deal with, figure that shite out.

Show me where I said Russia has the right to invade another country.

It's funny that you said this thinking I can't, but I can. It's right here:
quote:

There was a time when it was understood that you don’t back a dangerous animal into a corner.
You're here claiming it's Finland's fault and you can't blame Russia for invading Finland because Finals backed them into a corner.

Seems you forgot you said that, which is probably something you want to do, because it was a really dumb thing to say, so I get that.
quote:

If you accept that Ukraine is in this mess largely because PotatoBrain kept dangling NATO membership for them,
I don't accept this at all. This is absurd. Russia does not and should not get to decide who joins NATO, it's completely nonsense that you're insinuating they should.
quote:

and it's the Finns that would pay the price.
Russia is struggling with Ukraine, I think Finland can handle themselves, though it sure sounds like you'd be rooting hard for Russia here with how much you've decided to shill for them here.

Your graph is also nonsense. Tell me all the times that these NATO countries have invaded Russia. Russia having NATO countries all around them is not a real threat to Russia. The threat is that Russia can no longer boss them around like they're doing with Ukraine, and we're seeing countries no longer be afraid of Russia, and we're seeing the literal reason why countries are joining NATO, and it's because of Russia.

How does being a NATO country threaten an attack on Russia?

Can you name me all the NATO countries that have recently attacked and started a war with Russia?

This begs the question: WHO THE F#€K elected NATO — in other words our nation’s wholly corrupted national security apparatus — as global dog catcher to decide which animals live and which animals die?

What are you talking about?

Why are you insinuating that if Finland joins NATO that Finland and all of NATO will then be on the offensive and attack Russia?

You let the dangerous animal pick off the sheep individually?

Right, his argument is basically that you should never retaliate against a bully trying to control you because you just don't know what he might do when he can't get his way. It's best to just let the bully do what he wants.

Isn't that what Nato is planning on doing? Surrounded the Russian borders with future Nato members and then destroy them?

What else would they be doing?

What do you base this on? Can you name all the times NATO countries have attacked Russia?

Again, what do you base this on? Why hasn't NATO already done this? They don't need Finland or Sweden aboard to get this done right now.

What else would they be doing?

You see what Russia is doing right now to Ukraine? If yes, then what part of this do you not understand?

When has that ever been NATO's mission?

quote:

It is a collective security alliance. For some reason people on this site pretend like NATO itself decides to unilaterally absorb other countries to creep closer to Russia in order to ___________ (I honestly have no idea). That is not and has never been the case. NATO countries have shared a border with Russia/USSR since 1949, including countries housing US nuclear weapons. Those facts alone undermine the Russian spin on NATO's eastward expansion.

Nations formerly ruled by Moscow have, since the collapse of the USSR, sought to ensure that they will never be dominated by the Russians again, and recognize that NATO can protect them from future attempts by Russia to do so.

These sovereign nations are applying to become members because they want the protection that membership provides. Only in the most ridiculous and purposefully dishonest way can that be considered "aggressive". Under no circumstances does Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, or Bulgaria pose an offensive threat to Russia. If Russia did not want those countries to sprint away from its sphere of influence, perhaps it shouldn't have spent the better part of the 20th Century oppressing them and forcing them to accept Marxist-Leninist Bolshevism at the point of a sword.

I fear if it escalates Russia may move to a Blitzkrieg method. It could get a lot worse than it is.

This type of fear (i.e. Russia escalating and acting offensively when it doesn't get what it wants) is exactly why nations like Finland are now considering NATO membership.

They look at Ukraine as an example of what happens when no one has your back. The Swedes, Finns, Austrians, and Swiss are not just randomly considering giving up their strategic neutrality because they just heard of NATO or because Biden is trying to start WW3. They have legitimate concerns and interests in doing so--as is their sovereign prerogative. Those actions are not "threatening" to Russia just because Putin says that they are.

I hear you and maybe you're correct.

But linking it back to the OP and some of the replies, that is exactly why I can't fathom why folks don't understand why Finland or Sweden would want to join NATO. If Russia does that, or if they pose a threat of doing that, or seeing what they're doing in Ukraine...that is why all of the countries nearby are wanting to join NATO, to be protected from that.

This

Russia/Putin keeps saying this. Posters on here keep repeating it as fact. But not a single person has ever replied to me in any of the threads where this is stated what the actual threat is and what evidence they have as to why Russia should feel threatened. It's basically a "just cause Putin said" response.

No. Finland will be completely fine. Making them a NATO member is to provoke Russia. Otherwise, Finland is completely safe
