My last baby before this one cost us $0 to have. The entire delivery was covered. First baby cost $850 to deliver. It’s wild how much insurance varies and how you have basically zero control over the types of policies your employer will offer.

Medical rate of inflation is multitude times actual inflation to such a level that it will consume the entire economy within 20 years if not dealt with. It’s less sustainable than SS

As someone in healthcare, the process is a racket. It lacks visibility and the ability for consumers to make informed choices.

No you don't. My wife's FEP Blue Basic Plan is $250 for delivery. Everything else is $0 co pay for outpatient related services including postpartum care.

For example, I read an article that if you want an MRI, the authors called and found the price was $1200 to walk in and have it done. That assumes health insurance being involved. If you say you're paying with cash, the price comes down to $300. This was just one reporter calling around.
Did you whistleblow? That's against the law!

If you have good insurance, It should not cost you no more than $500. Any Hospital I ever worked at my Insurance out pocket cost was $500 or less for in hospital delivery

You are one of the dumbest posters on this board DeSimp. And if you have FEP Blue Standard there is $0 cost for delivery.

FEP Blue Basic

$250 per inpatient admission; nothing for outpatient services

My kid tore his ACL in November last year. When we went in for the MRI I hadn't met my deductible for the year so it was going to cost me $700 out of pocket. Called around a couple places and got it done for $500 cash. Makes no sense at all and tells you just how big of a scam insurance is.

What I've learned is that I too can haggle with them over prices. If the insurance company is going to do it, so am I. I now let all of my medical bills go to collections. Then I call and tell them what I can afford to pay. They will usually meet me in the middle. If they don't, I pay nothing and sit on it. They will eventually settle to get it off the books.

I've got a bill for $5k right now from his ACL surgery that I'm letting sit for a while.

Sister is an anesthesiologist assistant and making close to $300k. Their liability is huge but that’s ridiculous for what she does.

I'm having an ERCP next Thursday to remove a bile duct stent and that's gonna run about 90K before insurance.

On a positive note my max out of pocket over 2500 will be maxed out in early March.

There’s miles of space between FEP blue and other health insurance plans. You’re just running your dick sucker about nonsense. Per usual.

Every Hospital I have ever worked for, the Insurance I had the cost was $500 or less for delivery. If you have good insurance you are not paying 4k or 11k out of pocket for delivery like the OP and another poster said. I just looked up the average cost....

Vaginal delivery: $14,768 on average, with $2,655 typically paid out-of-pocket

AVERAGE= 2,655 out of pocket

Like I said..if you have good insurance you are not paying anything close to 11k or 4k out of pocket.

This is complete bullshite. If they have insurance they don’t haggle with the hospital. If they are an in-network provider the amounts have already been agreed upon. There will be an allowed amount for each procedure, they would then be responsible for their co-insurance percentage up to their out of pocket max. Births are highly subsidized and my guess is they will owe less than $1k when insurance gets the claims.

I had an accident a few months ago that required 2 hand surgeries plus hospitalization. The bill was over $20K and I owed less than $1k total between hospital and ambulance.

Got quoted 300 for medically necessary botox for a certain muscle to relax. The offered to have it covered, so I agreed.
They billed 1100 to bcbs, who paid 700, and I had to come out 400.

That my friends, is a snapshot of what's wrong.
