Energy Secretary Chris Wright told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday that the Trump administration is “open to all ideas” to lower the cost of gas, including suspending the federal gas tax.

Gas prices have been soaring, hitting a national average of $4.52 per gallon on Sunday, according to data from motor club AAA — an increase of more than 50% since the start of the Iran war.

Asked by moderator Kristen Welker whether he would support suspending the federal gas tax, Wright said that “all measures that can be taken to lower the price at the pump and lower the prices for Americans, this administration is in support of.”

Asked to clarify whether President Donald Trump is open to suspending the federal gas tax, which stands at about 18 cents a gallon, Wright said, “We’re open to all ideas.”

“Everything has trade-offs,” he added.

Democrats in Congress introduced a bill in March to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax until October.

Wright declined to speculate when asked whether average gas prices, which remain a potent political issue during a midterm election year, could reach $5 per gallon.

“I can’t predict the price of energy in the short term or even the medium term, but what we’re doing is ending a 47-year conflict Iran has fought,” he said. “Death to the United States for 47 years, death to Israel.

Wright previously told “Meet the Press” in March that there was a “very good chance” gas prices could drop below $3 per gallon by the summer. At the time, Wright predicted that “Americans will feel it for a few more weeks.” Eight weeks later, gas prices have continued to climb and shown no immediate sign of returning to prewar prices amid Iran’s continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a separate interview on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” Wright was asked whether the U.S. would resume “Project Freedom” anytime soon.

“If it’s clear in the next few days that there’s not a good path to a negotiated settlement, we’ll go back to the military method to open the strait,” he said. “The economic pressure on Iran right now is increasing dramatically.

And we will still be 1.30 give or take over what it was just 3 months ago before his stupid fricking decision to do Israel's bidding.

So $3 something for regular gas got it.

I’m sure you were complaining when regular unleaded was $4.50 under Biden.

His policies had a bigger effect on gas prices than literally bombing Iran. Incredible

according to who? Not his cabinet and not any financial analyst I've seen.

Weeks ago, Besset came out and said natl avg will likely remain above $3 until 2027 and the longer the bullshite goes on, the further into 2027 it goes.

Would love to see where it is $3.

Its $3.69 minimum anywhere around Houston when it was 2.15 back in January/February.

So its ok that Biden's shitty policies drove up gas prices, but Trumps shitty decision gets a pass?

According to the AAA site, the lowest statewide AVERAGE for Regular is Oklahoma, at $3.946/gallon. Major County appears to be averaging $3.776/gallon.

Is .18 cents per gallon really going to make a difference? I mean, if they use 100 gallons of gas a month, that's $18, not sure how much that's really going to help.

That money is critical for maintenance and construction of our highways. Saving $2 a tank isn’t the answer.

I was here to remember the Iranian Hostages and the overthrow of the Shah. We are 47 years too late in carpet bombing the damned place. Just hold onto your seat. This long over due!

During World War 2 our country had gasoline rationing. Every driver had a window sticker which dictated on which day they could buy gas.

Perhaps we should go back to rationing. Obviously the price now is rationing the purchase of gas/diesel.

Driving around BR it appears to me that many people drive around for no apparent reason. Maybe perhaps they should just stay on their patio with an adult beverage.

I want it to be back to $2.50 a gallon. That's reasonable.
