I agree. It's more a benefit to them than to the US. Putin isn't taking over Europe.
I agree, however, while Putin has an iron fist control of Russia, if he shows any weakness, I haven't seen it, other than he's like the head of the Mafia, with all these Dons (Oligarchs) paying honorarium to Putin. If one or several decide they want to ascend to the top, they're going to have to find a way to take him out. Were that to happen, what comes after Putin is anyone's guess. Could be a hard-line communist with a desire to flex his new muscle. If we aren't in NATO, and Russia is the provocateur, we'll back Europe, no doubt in my mind, but right now, I don't care if we decide to be on the outside looking in. Europe is going off the rails, both politically as well as societally, and if they have decided to poke the Russian bear, we shouldn't be expected to have their backs. If we pull out of NATO it would force Europe to the diplomatic negotiations table instead of continuing to press for more war, and also expect their would be changes to the NATO charter to better define the US role in NATO before we agree to come back.

Yes! & Yes! ONE THOUSAND PERCENT for both.
I think the USA leaving the U.N. should be the priority. I have no issues with remaining in NATO. However, it needs to be a requirement that the EU countries pay their own way AND the MAJORITY SHARE of our participation.

NATO is useless and basically always has been. It’s been an agreement to lock the US into protection of Europe.

The UN has been made useless because of the veto power in the Security Council. No country should have had that granted to them and that was the purpose of the major powers having permanent status on the council. Veto power was unnecessary and in fact negates any meaning to the security council.

Further if UN members refuse to honor resolutions passed by the security council and then have a veto member continually allowing them to get away with it (this happens in multiple directions), then again, it is useless.

Why do we give up being a key player by leaving NATO? I’m genuinely curious?

I think we still stay a power and in a lot of ways these countries will be working to continually garner our favor. They’ll whine and complain at first but ultimately relent to stay on Dad’s good side.

What you don't own you can't control and right now we own NATO and control events around the world. We don't need to leave NATO, we just need a strong leader like Trump to keep them in line. Europe is the ultimate buffer zone and we need that alliance so we can keep China in check.

No. We can remain but take a smaller role.

For example, let UK, Germany or a Scandinavian take the leadership role in NATO since their stakes are much higher in Europe than ours.

For the UN, allow another country to host it and we just become yet another member assisting where it makes sense for us to assist and let it be at that.

Elon and Trump are masters at pandering to the lowest common denominator…
I’ll give them that.
Sure we can retreat to “Fortress America”, but it’ll never work long term. Whether you like it or not, the world is connected.

Definitely get out of the United Nations and kick the United Nations out of the United States. NATO, stay in if the member countries update their defense spending to the levels they're supposed to be at. Right now most of NATO's member nations may be short of France and Poland are toothless tigers with so many vehicles and ships and aircraft out of service, and troop levels at record low numbers.

Man, we are the largest world power.

I understand people want to get out of nato and the un. And the way they are using us, it isn't the worst thing in the world.

However as the largest power, instead of being afraid to use that power, use that power like trump wants to.

Nato has some benefits to us. However make having trips over there benefit us. Because our troops over there benefit them.

Have them pay for the costs of the facilities. Have them pay for something. They get the local economic benefit of the base.

We are the largest power on the planet. I think we need to exert control over much of the world for our benefit.

But that is why. I want us there for our benefit. Currently we are there for the rest of the world to take advantage of us. I want us there so we can use that to benefit us.

"Fortress China" seems to be working out well for China, and they don't look like they are disappearing anytime soon. However, you assured me the world is connected, so I'm sure their collapse is imminent & isolationism is a mirage. Thanks, VOR.

You've been on here long enough. Do you really have to ask if people on this board agrees with this?

Ohhhh let me guess, Musk says it so now it's some kind of novel idea, right?? Not him finally jumping on the MAGA bandwagon to say what has essentially been apart of the agenda since day one.

Are you serious, Clark? There are plenty of pro-Russian and pro-Putin sympathizers on this board.

As previously stated, a large portion of MAGA are anti-American traitors hell bent on destroying America due to some perceived slight to them that is not even real.

Keep seething.

We need one of these for Asia to combat the real threat, Chyna. I guess we have one already but it needs bigger news coverage.

Bloc countries cant escape the shithole of their former rule Russia fast enough..

but you blame NATO, who has never invaded a country first, instead of Russia who regularly breaks pacts and treaties

The trend is clear. Maybe Russia should treat their neighbors better so they refuse to join the West.

The global peace would be shattered.

Of course Elon Musk would love for the US to exit so his companies overseas have less regulations to deal with.

Would make paying off and taking over governments much easier.
