I’ll say the same thing here that I say to the idiots on the left.

When everything is an outrage, nothing is.

Sure it did, but they were running away from it.

She’s the daughter of Zeus who had changed form into a swan for the sex act and now we’re really concerned about the color of her skin.

No, it’s Southeast Europe. What color skin do Eastern Europeans have? There was probably a more olive tone, but it wasn’t Congo black.

Actually Greeks, like Italians, are considered Mediterranean and yes, they do have more olive skin but would never describe themselves as anything but white.

that's not exactly a glam shot of Lupita. She's playing a sweaty American slave in that picture

Yes, it's not like she isn't a lovely person and a great actress. She cleans up very nicely:

The casting is dumb

Agreed. It might even work in a modern setting where more precise adherence to the source material is not required. I mean, O' Brother, where art though? is the same source material but set in the depression.

But this? We all know the reason (pandering) they're doing it and it serves no one well. Assuming she hits it out of the park (she has the ability), all people will talk about on either side is the silly stunt casting.

Homer uses several recurring epithets (standardized descriptive phrases) to characterize Helen. These give us the "vibe" of her appearance even without a list of traits:

"Argive Helen": Referring to her Greek origins.

"Helen of the white arms": In Book 3, she is called leukolenos (?e????e???). This was a standard mark of high-born beauty in the Bronze Age, suggesting she did not have to perform manual labor in the sun.

"The long-robed": (tanypeplos) Suggesting grace and elegance in her movement.

"The lovely-haired": (kallikomos) Often used to describe her radiant or fair hair.

Thank You US government. I will consider this my late Kwanzaa gift. Black power!

Is there not an angle to Helen of Troy being played by a black woman? The best a liberal could give for an explanation is on the same reasoning of why can’t a man be a woman (with or without transitioning).

All the Trojans in the movie should have Northwest Anatolian blood. Troy should be referred to as Wilusa and the culture should reflect the Northwest Anatolian Bronze Age, much closer to Hittite than to Mycenaean Greek. They should probably speak Luwian too.

The myths vary. You are only telling one.

But her description has been around since 700BC...you wish to change it now. For what purpose? Surely you would wish for literary accuracy.

The last time I went to movie in a theater was at least 10 years ago. Probably longer.

2. Remake the Wakanda/Black Panther stuff but with just white people.

There was a bunch of social media angst in the last few days because a black man with lighter skin was being discussed to play Black Panther. Apparently in the comics he's always dark skinned and they don't like the change.

Sounds like Elon is trying to avoid the fact that he was begging to go to rape island by stoking white rage over a black woman in a movie.

And it worked! Tiger droppings members are more upset that a black woman was cast in a movie than they are that Elon Musk lied about never wanting to go to rape island!

Look at me. I am your Helen of Troy now.

Whether intentional or not, this is small part of a far larger movement of attempts to re-write European history.

Goebbels is proud of your response.
