Being able to bet on things like this is such a new thing, are there actually laws on the books prohibiting this?

If I saw Patrick Mahomes get shite faced and fall down a flight of stairs and break an ankle one Saturday night, would it be illegal if I placed a wager against the Chiefs for a Sunday noon game before that info was made public?

We will arrest a soldier for doing this but not Congress

I’m ok with the arrest but everyone needs to be treated equally

If he was in Congress, he would be hailed as a good investor.

Army soldier was arrested on an indictment accusing him of using classified information to make bets that won him $400,000 on the Polymarket prediction market related to the American military mission that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, the Department of Justice said on Thursday

But when Barron, Kushner, Lurnick's kid, and others trade options moments before formal announcement for billions, there are amasizngly no arrests.

Are you sure? Markwayne Mullin is a Republican, and his “‘miraculous” jackpots prove the market doesn’t care about your voter registration.

If it's okay for Congress to make money on inside information, I have no problem with what he did.

Just wish I had some inside info that I could profit on. Anybody want to bet on what time I take a shite tomorrow?

is this some kind of classified information? This attempt at a comparison is mind boggling.

This takes insider trading to another level.

So…involved in the planning.

Outcome not guaranteed.

Bet on himself in a way. Bet on the US.

And we go after him vs all the other douchebags?

But he is dumb.

IDGAF about this until they arrest Pelosi.

Until then, I say leave this guy alone. Insider trading and similar crimes has essentially been deemed legal by the DOJ.

Insider trading really bugs me. It’s not the actual trading on inside information but the double standard that Congress is allowed to profit off inside knowledge. When a normie that isn’t a antifa type Dem does it they got the hammer dropped on them.

Our DOJ is a joke until I start seeing them handle up on all criminals not just good ole boys

That’s the kind of forward thinking, creative soldier we need more of.

If this guy is active duty he’s so screwed.

Where are all the people making million dollar trading bets 15 minutes before Donald Trump‘s Iran posts?

I wondered this as well. He didn't take taxpayer money; he took it from people just like him betting on ridiculous things.

And I am not sure how this meets the definition of "insider trading". Sure, he had the knowledge that the raid was coming, but not of its success. Operational success was not a guarantee. It has been described as extremely high risk. If they had failed, he would have lost over $30K.

Maybe I am being foolish, but I am just not bothered by this. The fact that he took $400K off a collection of degenerates gambling that Maduro would remain in power makes me chuckle. They pretty much deserved to part with their money.
