The amount of government spending is massive, however, that needs to be reigned in.

But that's not on the average gov employee. That's at the top. It just sucks that people will be losing their jobs because of a small group of thieves that will not be punished.

I just hope he doesn’t cut me. I’m a federal worker who voted for this. It’s like I want to send them an a note that says “I’m on your team here guys”!

I hear you and your worry has been heard. If I were you I would be somewhat worried as well. Hopefully your worry is all for nothing and your job is actually useful.

I don't think it sucks at all. They can get a job in the private sector.

And im telling you right now, the people that might lose their jobs knew about all of this fraud, waste and abuse but didnt say a fricking peep because they only wanted to keep their jobs and benefits. frick em.

Not sure how I feel about this,

I don't either, but if Democrats were willing to run an efficient government, it wouldn't even be a discussion. I said that Trump's term was going to be painful for some people, and if that happens to be anyone on here, just remember to place the blame where it should go. It shouldn't go to Trump, he's just trying to secure the future.

I doubt some medical tech working if Africa knew organizations well getting 100s of millions in federal funding. How would they have access to that information.

It would be like if that same employee worked at a hospital knew what the CIO,CEO, and CFO were up to behind closed doors.

Your post illustrates my whole point--a med tech in Africa--our tax dollars have been misappropriated and either the employees knew or at a minimum, held a position that wasn't directly benefitting the fricking United States of America with our tax dollars.

what we should be asking for is an unbiased product. I don’t know enough to know if that is a feasible and reasonable want.

are the current government employees or payment systems in USAID based on that?

I think y'all are using the same situation to make opposite points.

The current workers were not based on that, and look at how terribly things have been run. The new system HAS to have proper grounding, otherwise it will end up just as bad as the old system

The purge of Federal employee going on now is just smoke and mirrors.

It'll be a lot more than smoke and mirrors if they do this cruelly and stupidly. It will wreck the economy and cost them the midterms and 2028, then we'll get Democrats back in charge and a $10T federal budget. There's only a few seats and a few districts that have to flip for Democrats to get the House and the Senate in 2026.

The real cuts need to happen, social security, Medicare, defense.

We can likely cut defense, unless we want to train a suitable amount. Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid cannot happen quickly unless plans like I put forward are used. Otherwise, they are seen as off limits by everyone. There are easy fixes, though. I'm still amazed DOGE hasn't figured this out.

Is the AI going to be built on the foundation of the Constitution, the Bill or Rights and the Federalist Papers?

It's probably just going to actually answer the phone if you call it and push papers around faster than the speed of light, so that awesomeness.

Humanitarian efforts are needed in foreign countries to build relationships. If we don't build those then China will. Before we stopped it, it was playing out in Panama. Yes it has been abused. However it is needed so we need to do it the right way.

I spent 15 years in the private sector.

Is my federal job “slower”? Absolutely. But it’s still work. At least in my department. There’s no working from home or anything like that. Is there excess? Absolutely. I could name 7-8 people that if they were fired tomorrow it wouldn’t skip a beat. But I’m telling you if they go around just cutting “last ones in, first ones out” they are messing up big time. The longest tenured employees are by and large the ones who need to go.

Perhaps a redefinition of 'humanitarian' is badly needed.

Is developing an Iraqi version of Sesame Street humanitarian aid?!?!

I believe the plan is to not replace the overwhelming majority as they were unnecessary to begin with.

I remember one time we had to "do something" about healthcare, because the status quo was not working. We ended up with the ACA.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea, but I think some more information is warranted, and also a congressional vote.

Read an article in the Kansas City Star. KC's largest employer is the Federal government with about 33,000 employees. The analysis says that if 10% of those workers are fired the trickle down effects would be difficult. Every 1 Fed job would result in 2 private sector jobs lost. So 3,000 fed jobs lost would result in 9,000 people unemployed and increase unemployment by 2.5%.

Now do this exercise across the country. If Trump cuts the workforce in half that would be 1,000,000 fed jobs and 2,000,000 more private jobs. It's political suicide to do this. There's a reason why every Senator and Representative fights to keep military bases and Federal jobs in their state or district.

But Trump is not stupid, he is calling for a 10% reduction in force. The annual attrition rate of federal employees is about 100,000, or 5% of the workforce. The number of new federal workers in their probationary period is about 13%. Between the number of feds that just need to move on and retire and new feds whose careers have barely started, Trump will easily hit his 10% number. There will be restructuring and the bad elements will be purged.
