So I found and skimmed the actual study. The methodology was fairly sophisticated.

What they did was do an online survey as to racial perceptions of each name that had been assigned to dogs by the volunteers at the shelter. Each respondent provided their racial perception of 50 names, and the study assigned a value to each name based upon the percentage of respondents who expressed an impression as to the “race“ associated with the name.

For example, 95% of survey respondents might perceive “Ian” as a “white” name, or 80% perceive “Keesha” as a “black” name.

The OP article misrepresents the results to some extent. The adoption rate was only significantly slower for dogs with “black“ names if those dogs also happened to be pit bulls. It is not entirely clear from the study whether the slower adoption periods arose from the name or from the breed.

Given that the there was no significant adoption delay for other breeds between “Tyrone” and “Bentley,” the only significant result I see is that volunteers should give pit bulls “white“ names to improve their chances of being adopted.

That's weird. I always associated pit bulls with white trash.

She, unfortunately was too dumb for a STEM curriculum, and was forced to be an academic, focusing in the make-believe, and made-up.

Maybe if she starts with remedial courses, she will one day get a degree in something useful. I'm pulling for her.

There is nothing racist about associating certain names with certain ethic groups. Anyone that claims they don't do that is a liar or a retard.

And it is pretty easy to rename a rescue dog. People adopt based upon breed, behavior and what is available, not upon some notional name assigned to a dog in the pound. .

The study absurd.

The true crime is by making Professors with a focus of Intersectionality of Race and Sexuality we are depriving a village of a solid idiot. Austin has enough idiots to last a lifetime. Send this bitch back to where she belongs. Plus McDonalds is hiring!

With due respect, you miss the point. The study is not ABOUT “dogs.” It is a study about racial perceptions, in two stages.

First, the online survey is a study of how Americans make racial assumptions based upon name alone. No, that does not strike me as “racist,” but it is interesting.

Second, the adoption part of the study examines how Americans ACT, based upon those racial assumptions. As I understand the study results (and excepting pit bulls), it sounds like the study found that adopting families did NOT discriminate against dogs with “Black names.”. That strikes me as a Good Thing.

LOL, that anyone would even think it was a thing.

The real study should be to determine why NBP's discriminate against dogs with black coats.

Research has pointed to consistent results when it comes to the effects of racialized names. Whether the outcome is in the realm of hiring, housing, or a range of other areas that affect well-being and daily life, those with White-sounding names have an advantage over those with non-White-sounding names—including, but not limited to, those with Black- and Hispanic-sounding names (Bertrand and Mullainathan 2004; Deming et al. 2016; Quillian et al. 2017).1 These studies, many of which use audit methods or other experiments to examine the effects of racialized names, are considered strong evidence of the extent and prevalence of racial discrimination in the United States (Pager and Shepherd 2008; Quillian 2006; Small and Pager 2020).

There seems to be a concerted effort to make ME racist. Thanks for your time.

If in fact it does exist, has she ever honestly pondered WHY anti-blackness exists? Is it just RACISM!!! or is there another reason? Specifically, does the behavior of blacks contribute to anti-blackness
