Combination is the answer, though.
I think his primary drive, especially after having run and won once, is the country. If I had to guess, it was originally a pipe dream but then he saw how much traction he had and that fed his ego. I think after being in office 4 years and seeing how bad shite really is it has probably shifted to his desire to keep this beautiful place from falling so hard we never recover.

Does it matter? Was America better off in 2016-2020 or in the last 2 years. I’ll take another 4 years of Trump regardless of his motive.

I think Trump is a genuinely good dude and loves this country. His motivations are good. He's just prone to making colossal mistakes and he cares far too much about what the press is saying/writing about him.

Trump loves Trump first and foremost. Anyone who doesn't acknowledge this is being a complete child. "He sacrificed it all to run for President!!!" - yeah, one of the world's leading narcissists trying to become a famous historical figure and the most powerful man in the world. Practically Mother Teresa over here.
If he can conflate Trump with the USA and his vision of what's good for the USA is sensible, then it works. It mostly did his first term. Trump wins, USA wins.

I don't defend every one of Trump's actions but I'll put his performance as President up against anyone who has served before or after.
