Don't you all know? The young never get old. They are forever young. What's SS got to do with it.

That 350K is your money that you earned, you were forced to pay it by our government. If you die before collecting a penny of it and have no spouse or dependent children then the government keeps it. What an awesome system!!

But people under 30 think it's welfare.
Most clueless generation ever.

Whats the matter? You haven't stirred up us old folks lately?

You just won't be happy until you are old and we are ... dead.

Bad news. I just had my yearly exam (mostly g'ovt paid for) and Dr. says I'm going to live another 77 years. And I'm going to be collecting the SS THAT I PAID IN for that much longer.

So you keep on .

We should temporarily suspend payments for a short time, say 25 years to save it

Or save it now by suspending all foreign aid and foreign conflicts instead

Its really hard to sell the American Public on social security reform when it seems like we always have a bottomless pit of money for foreign aid and foreign entanglements

The younger age groups don't understand about having some sort of ability to pay their bills. I'm 68 and am very conservative with expenses. I remember being young and spending money on every whim that would come my way. Lots of regrets but thankful for SS to help pay current bills.

I wish you had an option of being able to invest versus it all just taken into a Social Security account

Not only does he deny the program needs reform to stay solvent, he says we need to increase the COL adjustments.

Then he is a idiot and living with his head stuck in the sand. Which is baffling if he knows the ins and outs like you say. The COL adjustments probably needs to be increased but I cannot say for sure without knowing more.

It’s basically impossible to have a conversation with him about the nature of the program and how the govt essentially is stealing your money and giving you a horrible return.

This is absolutely true. Even at 57 years old I wish they would cut me a check for every dime I have ever paid in and let me opt out and invest it myself and stack that with my other investments. But I know this will never happen so I at least want it to stay solvent so I can benefit from it.

It might be a generational thing, but I do think a lot of it unfortunately is people being susceptible to propaganda.

I think this is partially true. As you get older you get concerned if it will be there when you retire even if you have a nice nest egg put away. The other part is a large portion of the population are stupid when it comes to money and count on daddy government taking care of them.

IMO there needs to a tiered way of moving away from SS. We didn't get in this position overnight and won't get out of it overnight. Ripping the band aid off won't work.

The percentage of seniors living in poverty has been cut in half since the beginning of social security. It's just a simple fact.

I have news for you. When the US government first gouged a chunk out of my little check, 48 years ago, They forced me into a contract, for life. I have not changed the contract. They have, multiple times. They have also left the pot that we all pay into with an IOU several times, while never restoring the money that they felched out of it.

Foreign policy welfare to welfare sucking nations are A LOT larger bane on the federal budget than social security.

I think that’s fair but the issue is when those investments go belly up those losses will be socialized. In other words, a government bailout is highly likely.

SS is something that neither you or I signed on to.

It was forced on us.

It's not in the Constitution. Congress could remove it with a majority vote.

Why not? Its their money. That they werent allowed to invest on their own (at gunpoint)

That would be akin to saying people shouldnt feel entitled to the money that have in checking accounts. Because the bank should be able to spend it instead

A bunch of dumbasses running around pretending thats the governments money

The blame sits squarely with the Left. They love to say “Republicans are going to take your Social Security away” every time election season is upon us.

Takes a soulless shitty arse person to lie to Seniors like that, knowing full well, it’s not true and they will believe it.

If anyone is taking things away, look no further than the Left with the last shutdown. They took away benefits in an attempt to make Trump look bad.
