Been there TDY. I agree, great base. But the politics of the state and local region make any chances of putting a major DoD HQ there a non-starter simply due to costs.

This is a topic that interests me a lot, and if I didn't work for the US Government in a totally different capacity (US Marshal) I would've pushed to become something relevant with space exploration and defense.
How much does defensive capability play into the sites chosen? I legitimately don't know.
It seems like you wouldn't want TOO much of your central command and HQ in one place (like Cheyenne Mountain) in the event of a nuclear attack, but how much did this play into the decision to put Space Force HQ in Huntsville? Am I even correct in calling it "Space Force HQ"?
I know the Air Force and Army already served several of the functions that the Space Force will now handle under one roof, but what are the strategic advantages to having it based in one place vs. another when it comes to foreign attack?
Wouldn't both Huntsville AND the Cheyenne Mountain area of Colorado be on the list of the first few areas a foreign enemy would want to attack, possibly drop a nuke?
What makes one better than the other, in this regard?

Laugh away. I have no idea whether Huntsville was the right choice or not after everything was considered (I have opinions, but who knows what the site surveys and EIAPs showed), but IF they went against an obvious decision based upon the scoring criteria, and IF they did so for political reasons, it should be changed. Otherwise, the DoD could waste hundreds of millions.
If they followed everything and made a good decision, then congrats Huntsville.

And you think there's no way for the Biden admin to make an equally political move to change it?

Nowhere in any of my posts as I advocating for a political choice on either side. The IG will figure out whether the process was followed. Let the chips fall where they may.
