Dallas and Houston do not have the infrastructure to support the passengers upon arrival.

Sure a rail system will include plans for the passengers while engaging in train related activities, but what about once the passengers arrive at destination?

Neither city has an adequate bus system nor taxi system and a subway network is not possible.

Are all the rail passengers supposed to rent vehicles at the end of the line?

Think of a Bond Villian that wants a monopoly on space for minerals

Get back to me when you give it a think.

PS, think of Salk giving away the polio vaccine or Tesla giving away electricity transmission. Pretty sure Elon is the opposite of this.

Agree partially, but truly how “efficient” is high speed rail?

You spend billions on special rail and run cars at over a hundred or 200 miles an hour while commercial air travel flies you at double the speed using around 900 gallons of jet fuel per hour. Which may sound like a lot until you factor in all the electricity needed to power a train going 200 miles an hour.

If there is not a big effort in providing a high level of security on mass transportation then no.

While Musk buying Twitter was a good thing, and he does appear to be more red-pilled these days, he has ALWAYS been a big proponent of climate change initiatives and massive government spending to “thwart” climate change.

And if he can make money off of all the government subsidies that climate change hysteria brings, he’ll support it.

The federal government should manage the construction of HSR just like the Interstate Highways. Private companies would then operate the trains, which is how Japan does it. Musk could buy his own train company.
Station location is critical to success, downtown locations are far preferred over suburban parking lots that require renting a car to get to a hotel.
Construction costs in the US are 50% higher than in Europe or China. The US would need to nationalize some freight tracks, or widen the right of ways, and upgrade the routes to get a reasonable cost with a reasonable benefit, but the benefits would be substantial in selected locations. Certainly a good altenative to spending billions on wider highways.

California HSR is a disaster. Conceived and designed for political reasons more than anything else, with no source of funding the 128 billion dollars needed to complete the project, it will be the biggest white elephant in US history. Brightline will show how it can be done.
Lucid Stew has a great Youtube channel about American HSR, I highly recommend it.

As long as it doesn't involve public money, I'm good.

Absolutely. Go live in Europe or Seoul for a couple months and see how much better life is with a functioning rail system.

The new Brightline train in Florida is awesome too.

Elon has been taking it on the chin lately. Everything he touches loses its luster. I doubt I would want his involvement.

Well this doesn't make any sense. Isn't hsr for passenger service? I don't want to see tank cars and boxcars travelling over rail at 200 mile per hour. Why would the trucking industry suffer?

This will increase the need for truck drivers to haul freight to load the trains.
