I do for the kids that have families on it. They did nothing wrong, except in many cases, be born to crappy parents.

I also feel bad for those who are truly down on their luck and honestly need SNAP.

The rest of 'em? Screw 'em.

Private foundations and churches would be much better positioned to determine real need. Government needs to get out of the charity business.

I saw a twitter post of a black dude saying if they don’t care enough about their own kids to go get a job to buy them food, then why should I? He makes a valid point.

Not even remotely. They should get nothing more than bare subsistence. rice and beans and maybe some milk for the kids. It isn't our job as a society to make people so comfortable they don't need to work. Simple as that. The gall of liberals to have a 400 pound chick talk about the importance of snap aid proves how fricking stupid liberals are. Go to Walmart and spend an hour watching people pay with the welfare cards. Most of them could stand to be off welfare for 6 months to a year just to get back to normal obesity and not morbidly obese.

There are too many people who will never even attempt to work if you give them cellphones, food, housing and the internet. You should HAVE to volunteer or attend job training to even get welfare. When Maine forced people to volunteer or seek job training for 20 hours a week, 70% of the recipients quit.

The conversation we NEED to have:

Moral hazard is the risk that a person or entity will behave in a more reckless or risky way because someone else will bear the cost of those risks. This often occurs when a party is insulated from risk, such as through insurance or bailouts, which can lead them to take actions they wouldn't if they faced the full consequences.

Children and those who are not able bodied/ able minded have my sympathy and support . All others need to start paying in like the rest of us.

The current system isn’t about feeding hungry people.

Absolutely this, but the freeloaders don't want to get preached at, and the government wants to be the go between so they can take a big bite out of the money passed around.

No, because most people on SNAP have money to buy certain luxury items that working people who are not on SNAP cannot afford.

I would be in favor of paying snap and even giving them a small welfare check if they agreed to deportation to Africa.

Get them out!! We will mail you a check.

Money well spent.

Local news has been laying it on thick about all the people affected. To their credit, a lot of assistance organizations seem to be stepping up and the State here is helping to pay some benefits.

I feel bad that many people that truly need assistance are being used by politicians as “leverage” to further their agendas.

I feel bad that many people who need assistance may not receive it due to waste, fraud, and major abuses of benefits programs .

Then you should make hefty contributions to your local food banks and soup kitchens. No one says you can't personally feed the hungry and the lazy.

I honestly think some people live on the streets by choice.

I thought it had become common knowledge that MOST people on the streets are there by choice.

Now those choices are in largest part made in the context of mental illness and/or drug addiction, but I'm pretty sure there have been enough initiatives to provide housing and alternatives for these people and the majority say "No thanks," because they don't want to follow the rules of the program.

I suspect the choice is drugs and alcohol or a place to live. If they could have drugs and alcohol and a place to stay, they would choose that. Maybe we are saying the same thing in different ways.

Looking forward to churches, charities, families, and communities handling people in need instead of federal tax dollars.

I remember as a kid, my dad told me the community as in family, friends and the churhes took care of the people down on their luck before LJB's Great Society programs stepped in, in 1965. Like one of the government lies - Hi I'm here from the government and hear to help. When the community took care of many of these people they found ways to get them back on their feet.

My dad said he can remember his mom would make sandwiches for drifters and men down on their luck. This was in the 40's and 50's.
