No matter who you are, unless you're mentally ill, everyone agrees certain actions are "right" and certain actions are "wrong."

Murder is wrong.
Stealing is wrong.
Lying and deceit are wrong.

Kindness is right.
Mercy is right.
Compassion is right.

The knowledge of right and wrong is part of our being. How did it get there? What is its source?

Correct, this is why Democrats can be such hypocrites when it comes to right and wrong.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander. We know it is bad if X happens to us, so we know what's bad for mankind. We all do, by nature, what we think keeps us around on the longest timeline into our short existence as a race.

So, when we see bad stuff happening, it's news. That's why we don't care for good news nearly like we do when it's bad.

I do.

However morality is on a sliding scale. Some acts of morality are worse than others. And sometimes we have to use the principle of double effect for the greater good and select bad moral acts to avoid a worse moral act or select a bad moral act for good outcomes for the greater good.

Yes, and moral relativism leads to a whole lot of evil under the guise of "gray areas".

That's not the principle of double effect.

The origins of morality are merely an extension of instinct and the natural urge for the species to survive further built upon by self awareness.

"wrong" is anything that you would not want done to you, as anything bad for you is slightly bad for the species overall. Humans are pack animals.

"right" is the opposite. Our emotions play into both sides because we actually have emotions.

Whether the existence of morality is by design or not is a whole other conversation. Did an omnipresent and all powerful being put it into motion? Won't know until you cross over if it is true or fade into nothing if it isn't. Reality is in your mind for the most part. We all agree things are "real" because of a shared sensory response in our brains. There is no proof that anything is actually "real" outside of us agreeing that we experience the same feelings in the same situations. I only believe other people are real and not just a figment of my imagination or a construct of the energy that makes up my consciousness. There is no actual proof. Morality is the same in a regard.

So, you're saying Absolute Morality is a result of natural selection, the will for all things to survive and evolution?

So you believe Moral Absolutism is proof of the existence of a Universal moral authority?

So you're saying immorality can lead to moral outcomes, justifying immorality?

So, in a nutshell, "treat others the way you want to be treated" is a mechanism for the survival of the species?

Those things come from the stability of human societies. Things like, marriage, farming, cooperation to produce food shelter clothing etc. Without these foundations you have chaos. In a chaotic / survival environment all of those moral rules that you think of as being part of us become cloudy/discarded in order to provide for you and yours or to fight those who want to take your life, your mate, your possessions or your freedom.

Er, no.

Morality is a notion, a mental construct that doesn't exist outside of sentient beings.

Yes. Distilled down to its purest form.

The golden rule

Jesus' "love your neighbor as yourself"

The 10 commandments (minus the ones about obedience to the one god)

Buddhist "harmony with others and nature"

These all essentially mean "be nice to others so we can all survive this mostly traumatic existence with some moments of calm, peace and happiness while giving the new generation a chance to do the same"
