re: Spanish Town parade could leave Baton Rouge amid city-parish budget cuts

the city-parish has paid for security for the parade for the past 45 years.
How much sales tax revenue will the City of Baton Rouge lose in just one day by not providing security for a parade.
Lots of food and alcohol sold on those days.
Just sayin'

Look it up. In1972, the Dems had to put on a telethon to raise money because it was broke. Watergate changed the whole ballgame.

Find the Roosevelts graves in the cemetery, and go to the tapestry museum in Baysux.

Ironically named after the guy who invented dynamite.
re: High humidity in the house

Possibly poor air sealing in your air handler allowing humid air to be sucked in to the system.
We saw one come in while staying in Gulf Shores a few years ago. Was supposed to land in the Atlantic, but choppy seas forced them to change to the Gulf. It came from the soutwest approximately over the last production platform south of Mobile.
It’s COBOL. Use Google before you post.
Sod Webworms After This Winter Storm
Posted by DoctorO on 1/23/25 at 10:51 am
Is this snowfall and freezing temperatures enough to eradicate the sod webworms in the East Baton Rouge area?

re: help diagnosing electrical problem and possible solution

Not an electrician, but looks like the right romex is the power feed. Black wire is the hot. Left romex goes to fixture, for instance ceiing fan. Black wire to the fan. Red (middle switch) to the light powered by black jump over. Right switch doesn’t make sense. The white should connect to white wire on middle switch not connected to switch

This never gets talked about, but I think this is the worst part. You can pick up all of the litter and 5 minutes later more could be there. The weeds and general disrepair really showcases the neglect, and I'm not talking about the pavement. We can't buy a little weed killer? I don't understand why such little effort is put to maintaining the highways and streets we have. We pay a lot of taxes for garbage from LADOTD. Not even talking about building new bridges (we need that too), but just keeping the reflectors and stripes painted on a highly deteriorated road surface is just too much for LADOTD to handle.
The issue is that people are hired to work in offices, and not enough people are out doing the work.
Money is being spent on salaries, and not enough on getting work done.
re: DNC wants convention to be homage to Biden on his departure

A political party should choose its candidate by delegates that are truly interested in the politics/beliefs of that party.
The open primary system, though with good intentions, has screwed up the selection process to what we now have with weak ideological candidates on both sides of the political aisle.
It’s a numbers game rather than getting strong candidates.

It’s a shitty place filled with shittier people because they’re the only type of people who would want to participate in the clown show we call a federal government for powers sake alone
Amen
re: Do you believe presidential polls?
Posted by DoctorO on 4/29/24 at 10:13 am to SlidellCajun
Depends on how they are conducted.
In the old days, pollsters would call random landline numbers and talk to people. Now with cellphones, you see a number that is not on your contact list and you probably don' t answer. Or, you respond or don't respond to email or texts that indicate a poll is involved.
I don't think that this is as scientific as the old way.
