Do people not understand that DOGE isn't an actual Government Department ?

New Government Departments need congressional approval.
And Trump said that "DOGE" will exist for no longer than 18 months.
Elon's title is kind of like Dwight Schrute's "Assistant to the Assistant Manager" Title.
Basically Elon is just going to be a guy that makes suggestions for 18 months.
Trump is already making jokes about how "Elon won't go home".
And while we all want to cut Government waste on idiotic nonsense, of which there is plenty, people will sing a different tune if they start cutting Social Security or repeal the ACA and people with preexisting conditions can no longer get insurance.
I think a lot of young people aren't aware that prior to ACA you could be denied health coverage for even minor/distant preexisting conditions.

SS is not going to be cut but I believe it is going to be looked into for fraud and waste. I receive SS, actually Railroad Retirement, and I'm all for having it looked into for mismanagement of funds.

Correct in that DJT needs no permission to create a council of advisors.

I would hope not.
But it's not as if he needs to worry about getting reelected.
Just saying that the Republicans are back in favor now and that they need to be careful not to blow it.
Cut peoples Social Security and you will lose them forever.
And people would be furious if we returned to a world where people with preexisting conditions couldn't get health coverage.

I absolutely could see them proposing a revision of SS to allow younger workers to opt out (while still paying into SS in some part).
If you were 35 and were offered the chance to opt out of SS would you if:
1)You had to waive what you had put in
2) The "employer's half" (6.25%) was still paid into SS
3) Employee "half" would have to be invested (pretax dollars) into investment vehicles with at least 50% US securities
4) The account would be owned by the employee and heritable.
Would you take that deal (for those beyond 35, would you have taken that option if it had been available)?

People with preexisting conditions always could get insurance. It was just more expensive. That's fair.
The real answer is to cut all the red tape and fix the legal system so medical costs decrease. Changing insurance never had a chance to fix anything.

Yep, it's a task force, and once it's goal has been met, it will DOGE itself.
Unlike, say, the Department of Education which was initially formed as a task force to stop states from siphoning dollars from black schools to white schools, which legitimately was happening, once that task was met, it metastaized into another bloated bureaucracy to make themslves seem still-relevant mandating behaviors & controversial curriculum to local schools via the threat of federal funds being withheld. God, I hate big government.

It’s been said ad nausaem that disquisitions based on pre existing conditions will never be policy in healthcare in the United States again. Any repealing of ACA will be accompanied by pre existing condition protection.
Get your head out of your arse. Everyone knows that’s literally the only good thing out of the entire insurance welfare bill.

What dumb point are you trying to make? No one with a brain thought Elon and Vivek were being appointed to government positions.
They are simply being given an open look at the books to expose some of the retarded waste and corruption in government, and recommend cuts where it possible and beneficial. This will mostly be all useless federal employees in various three letter agencies.
Trump can also put a stop to the Department of State and Department of Defense randomly sending a billion dollars to Ukraine every other week.
